Mr. Somchai said that the installation of the main system is already completed, adding that only software is needed to be installed to check the whole system again. He said that the check-in system for passengers are being fixed into the airport, adding that there should not be a problem with the installation as the system is the old one used in the Don Muang airport and more than 80% of airports nationwide.

As for the installation of CTX 9000 bomb detectors and baggage conveyer belts, Mr. Somchai said that GE Invision has sent officials to carry out the installation, adding that the systems will be completed within the end of this year. He added that after all systems are installed, the airport will be tested again. He estimates that it will take about six months for everything to complete.

TRANSPORT MINISTRY TO TEST COMPLETED BOMB-SCANNING SYSTEM AT SUVARNABHUMI NEXT WEEK

The Ministry of Transport is set to test the complete bomb-scanning baggage handling system at the Suvarnabhumi Airport next week.

Deputy Minister of Transport Chainant Charoensiri (ชัยนันท์ เจริญศิริ) revealed that the construction of Suvarnabhumi Airport is almost complete. The Airports of Thailand Plc. is currently taking delivery of the runway section from the construction company. Next week the airport will start testing its ICT system and the completed CTX 9000 bomb scanning system. Every system in the airport is expected to be ready for tests in next month.

Gen. Chainant said that despite the higher costs of construction, the contractors would not be able to reduce the quality of materials used, as a committee has already been set up to oversee such matter. The Deputy Minister also reiterated that the commercial opening of the airport would take place in June as scheduled.
