Chong Mek & Sirindhorn Dam

Featured Replies

What is there to do at Chong Mek & Sirindhorn Dam? Any markets worth visiting at the border? Any places of interest around the lake (other than golf)?

Forget the markets at Chong Mek as there is nothing interesting on the Thai side. There are a few shops on the Laos side that offer a few bargains but a few years ago they stopped allowing foreigners to walk over for a look see without checking your passport. Now everything is checked and you will get stamped out and not allowed back to Thailand without purchasing a Lao Visa for $30 - $35 so not worth it either.

Sirindhorn is work a look. Beautiful gardens that you can drive around and stop and walk when you want. You can walk out onto the hydro dam wall. A restaurant on the waters edge. A nice day trip for sure.

Here is a (very) small report that I did on the place with a few photos a couple of years back. http://www.memock.com/2009/09/04/sirindhorn-dam/
