Thai 1 Year Driving License Application

Featured Replies

Hi,

Armed with the information given on this forum I went to my local Driving license office (near Utaradit)

I supplied the following for each licence (motorbike and car)

1. Passport + copies of foto page, visa page (Non-im O), last entry page, 1 yr extension page, re-entry page

2. Two ID fotos

3. One application form (available at office)

4. Original residence certificate from immigration (free)

5. Medical certificate (50 bahts at local clinic given in 10 minutes)

6. International driving license + copy

Took no more than 30 minutes from application to delivery of both licenses.

Of these, 20 minutes were spent arguing if I needed to take a driving test or not, if my International driving license was genuine or not (he said he saw one for the first time....) and taking the eye test.

I do not think that a letter in english from the embassy certifying the residence would have done the trick as he nearly insisted I had my International driving license translated in Thai and validated by the Embassy....

In the end I walked out with both licenses, the first ones issued in Uttaradit on the strength of an international driving license.

They also told me that the 5 year license application can only be done after the 1 year license has expired but within one year of that expiration.
