After one of the above, a proper heavy duty one which I think are either bronze or brass. Does anyone have an idea whare I can get one?

Go to the Auction houses in Pattaya; they do bar clearances and with the dreams of 3-5 farangs going pop every week, they always have shed loads of big bells in there for sale.

I bought mine in a Buddha statue shop.

Look for boat or Navy bells.

I went past a shop in Lad Prao (opposite soi 25, next to the Land Mark apartments) and they sell all sorts of stuff, but on their sign they say Brass Bells with a big piccture. It was closed, but I will take a peek if you are in Bangkok.

Went past it today... closed again, but the sign actually says Antique Bell- I know I have seen it open so will persist.
