Customs House and Permanent Border Crossing to Set Up in Buriram Province

BURIRAM: -- Buriram provincial administrators attended a meeting with the Public Private Partnership Committee to discuss about establishing a Buriram Customs House in Satuek District and changing the Thai-Cambodian temporary border checkpoint in Ban Kruad District into a permanent border crossing.

The Buriram provincial administration held a meeting with the Public Private Partnership Committee to discuss the establishment of a Buriram Customs House.

The committee has agreed to expedite the process of setting up a Buriram Customs House in Sateuk District, as well as changing the Chong Sai Taku temporarily border checkpoint at Chanthop Phet Subdistrict in Ban Kruad District to a permanent border crossing, where a customs house will also be constructed, as the crossing was previously just open on Fridays and Saturdays.

They believe that this will aid in the development of Buriram Province as a trading hub, like other provinces adjacent to the border. Trading between Thailand and Cambodia will stimulate investment and tourism of the province, which will benefit the economy.

The province and the Public Private Partnership Committee have coordinated with security units to expedite the establishment of a customs house at the airport and the Chong Sai Taku temporarily border checkpoint, in the hopes of improving economic efficiency and Buriram's tourism industry.

I'll believe it when I see it. At the moment it's not a border crossing point as such, just a placewhere on a couple of days a week locals can go over and buy cheap booze and fags. It was mooted to be a proper immigration point years ago, and the Cambodians actually built a customs/immigration building on their side. Then came the burning down of the Thai embassy in Phnom Phen and that was that!

hope that they have discussed this also with their Cambodian counterparts.

As they have the rule one province=one bordercrossing.

I am sure the discussions on ownership of the obligatory casino there were sorted out months ago.

Dont you know it! This could really change Buriram, especially Prak Khonchai. Would also make more traffic coming thru Meuang Buriram. That all it needs ...more traffic. Maybe passport runs will be easier.
