Hi all,

At the end of June I will be returning with my family to live back in the UK and I now need to start thinking about the best way to sell my car, a Honda City which I have owned from new since August 2009.

What is the best way to sell? Through classifieds? Expat Motors? Garages who I have seen advertised who offer a buy now price? Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. In case this is relevant it has its full documented service history, 32,000km on the clock and has not been involved in any accidents.

Regards,

Andy

Hi,

Best way is many ways ;-) Thaivisa Classifieds, or other online website, mouth to ear ... if the car is in good condition and the price attractive, many people can be interested so put some pictures on the net ...

By the way, where are you located ?

I'm trying to sell my car at the moment...

I sold my first car to a tent 10 or so years ago, I needed a quick sale as a sharp change of jobs drew me back home - I imagine I lost some money on that. The tents never offer a reasonable price, they are giving you the cash and theirs is the risk to sell on the car - Fair game I suppose.

I sold my second car with adverts in the Bangkok post, Nation, Baht & Sold, ThaiVisa.com, plus a couple of the Thai Second hand car magazines, I had a lot of interest and many time wasters. Some people seem to think that they can make silly offers and that you need to jump over backwards with addons to sell the car (well, at least one American living in Pattaya did !)...

My third car (RangeRover MK III 2004) is up for sale at 2.5 MB. Its on Taladrod, Baht & Sold and ThaiVisa.com... It's getting no interest, I'm going to have to drop the price and also place it in the Thai second hand car classifies magazines.

You will always be able to sell your car, but, you might not be able to get what YOU think its worth...

I would advertise on free sites, put a sign in the window with the price, and go to a few dealers and get their price.

If you’re working, try to sell it at work, that’s how I unloaded the Toyota. Got a good price too.

Any consignment lots?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. To answer one of the questions, yes it is in very good condition. I did look into shipping to the UK but shipping costs and converting the aircon system to a heater amounted to far too much money.

Living in Bangkok and it being a Honda I am hopeful that it won't be too difficult to sell, but of course at what price. That is the next dilemma. Certainly classifieds seem to be a good starting point. No mention of Expat Motors?

The dealers should make you an offer, add 30% to that and plan on coming down a some.

You can also just get the replacement cost from you insurance company and mark it up the same way.

In this market and given the current new car delays, if it's priced right you should be able to sell it pretty fast. If your plan is to try and hold out for the asking price you see on car lots, you're going to get stuck with it.

best of the Thai websites are www.one2car.com have a look there and see what else is selling, and then take out an ad. Selling anything to expats and farangs is a bit of a pain, in my limited experience, there are few of them, they often have no money, and the ones who do tend to be pretty careful with it and often do way more homework than many of the local buyers would. But there may be someone out there to buy your car ;-) Good luck.
