I hear that the Triangle bar in Pattaya has Brains Bitter at 130 or 140 baht a pint/500 ml. Sounds worth a try when in the area.

Also hear that confu Zion bar has closed its doors. Pity, now no fish and chips, pie and chips, Indian curries, breakfasts etc., in town.

Meant to add (ref confuZion) that it is also a pity for the staff that will lose their jobs and whoever has lost money on the venture.

Speaking of losing jobs, the Tesco in Fairyland appears to be closing. Not too surprising really as they generally have more staff than customers, same as the new Big C. Makes it almost a pleasure to go there but no good for the balance sheet.

Update Triangle bar doesn't sell Bitter anymore.

At least 50th different sorts of ciders, sorry to say don't drink that after a binge section one night many years ago on Scrumpy.

Right the bar packed last night with what seems like locals 99% middle aged men good service from attentive staff.

But if your looking for a lady for a take away you wont find it there. And the place is all the better for it.

All drinks are two for one but they do put the price up but not to bad as it still leaves the price for a small Leo at 45bt even though it'll cost you 90bt if you don't indulge on the offer.

I am off to Patters on thursday for 4 nights, maybe we will be in the Triangle Bar, they do 2 drinks for the price of one ( the one being a tad pricey though ) if we get there will let you know whats on and how much.

Now the Yorkshire school will be doing courses on Yorkshire pudding making, growing liquorice and how to play in brass band ( in tune!).

Also of interest, especially the locals will be the course on game shows 3-2-1, Bullseye and Countdown (that should stump a few ) and whats the betting evry student ends up with Dusty Bin?

A full size Working Men's Club is mentioned with entertainment on saturday nights, usually exiting girl and boy double act ( although in Thailand it might have to be a Working Women's Club).

New work on House of Nong starts on our return from CM on the 10th of February although no seats to watch men at work. Tours will take place after the Chinese New Year. We decided against the Heli-pad as the \High Speed Rail project from China will now stop adjacent to the House of Nong, still cant used to all this fame and adulation, nor why Thailand wants to use steam engines on a high speed line, funny old world eh?

Will Colin Crompton be there as well?

Sadly not as Colin, Bernard Manning, Charlie Williams, Norman Collier, Frank Carson et al have passed on into history.

Apparently Jim Bowen was approached but the reply only contained a couple of words which no-one understood! Thats what happens when you ask a Lancastrian to work in a Yorkshire English school!!

I went to N/S immigration to do my 90 report this morning and I went, handed my passport over, the form processed and printed and I was out of the door in 3 minutes. A personal best for me. N/S must have known that I was coming as only one set of traffic lights was not green when I got there and that quickly changed in my favour.

The even reset the clock to the correct time as well. Parking was a doddle in the old BigC as there was plenty of empty spaces.

The bad news is that there were few customers upstairs and their stock is not so good. I went over to Makro later and that was the same, also no legs of lamb in the freezer. On the way back home I went into the LotusTesco north of N/S and that was much the same as the other two, plenty of parking, plenty of "assistants" in the shops but little worth buying, no lamb in Tesco either.

N/S was quiet all over but they are starting to prepare for the Chinese New Year next month. That will certainly bugger up the traffic flow then.

Well done you.

I don't think there's to much Lamb about at the moment, everywhere seems to be to be out.

Most of the lamb I have seen here comes from Australia maybe the wrong season.

More to the point did you find anywhere to eat.

I realise my credibility is a bit low, with the non-availability of Bitter in Pattaya and the demise of confuZion, but V Steak (at the second bend after confuZion going towards Sawan Hospital) is worth a call. Reasonable prices, beer available, and generally all OK but portions a bit on the small side, good English spoken and open all day till 9.00 p.m. I would recommend the Ham Steak.

Fredo I think you are fortunate having somewhere like the Oasis close to hand, I am tempted to make a trip one day.

I just ate at KFC as I met a guy and spent a couple of hours talking to him and then I realised what the time was so I just ate where it was nearest and did my shopping then went home.

N/S was fairly empty of people for some reason.

A "BIT LOW" that must be the under statement of the year. Only a few weeks so not that bad.

The Triangle bar other than no Bitter was fine.

Regards the trip to Oasis restaurant/Bar don't forget you will need a K.P.P visa.

Bill is worrying me lately KFC enough said.

Right Update.

H/M has been a bit quiet lately humble apology's for that all due to the fact I am now in Blighty. Have been since Monday night.

Small problem with Mum she has been taken into hospital, now thank Buddha picking up a trite.

I know your all yearning to hear how things are here. I can sum that up in a few words. IT'S THE PITS.

Cold still dark at 7.45am likewise 4,15pm.

Not going down the route/rout AM of having to pay 85p for a pint of milk at Heathrow. One does need a few teas on arrival.

Now here's a thing did you know that all the grass here changes colour overnight instead of being green it's now white.

Am taking solace in the fact that the TV here is great well that's if you don't include all the repeats or old films.

Last nights offering was the very up to date Clint Eastwood's 1973 Magnum Force.

Oh nearly forgot there was a new program last night called BKK Airport had lot's of the behind the scenes of what goes on. Quite interesting except they for some unknown reason had to include the dregs of humanity To-wit English lower class peeps having problems, lost passports, drunk, etc all their own fault and blaming it on Thailand.

H/M now knows why the customs peeps there don't smile.

Must say am looking forward no end to the weekends offerings.

Bill I have got Lamb + all the trimmings for lunch on Sunday I'll let you know how I get on. Thought check out mint sauce.

More update's to follow as and when that's if I haven't gone down with anything flue wise or frozen to death.

Including the Walk there are three Bill. The one in Fairyland is pants and I believe due to close. The Tesco I go to is the big one. If I were coming over the main bridge then thru the lights and Old Big C on my left. Next set of lights you will see the Walk on the right. Great place to eat but have to do a U turn to get to. But instead to get to the big Tesco keep on that road straight past the Mc donalds on your left. Keep going and after about 3 minutes you will see the big Tesco on the other side of the road. Take the next u turn to get to it. Loads of NZ Lamb. Aussie Beef and Aussie Lamb as well. Much better choice than the other two. Now id wished Id come down on Thursday and shown you. So sorry about the mix up with dates.

That was the Tesco I looked into but I didn't see any lamb. Maybe I need new glasses. It isn't the end of the world though. Don't worry about Thursday as I will be down agin in 3 months and we can try again.

I am just finishing my luch of a homemade bread roll with homemade ham and Branston pickle. I have a recipe for the pickle but a friend goes to BKK quite often and buys stuff like that for me.

The low number of people in the Capital over the last few days was because I was away and lots only come to have the photo taken at the "Palace" hoping for a view of the "super star" himself, or mybe catch him down the market meeting the flock etc etc, word soon get around when I am not about.

Returning from Patters today lots of traffic on the way in to NS but generally not much on the road up from Patters, not many people there at all, the bars empty after happy hour and thats it, lots of Russian literature but not many Russians, brilliant forward planning there.

Now as for Makro I am told that all the ex pat stuff has been put in one place, certainly for the no fridge stuff so you might need to find it.

Just 10 days before we depart on yet another goodwill visit to the north. Keep this under your hat, or wig, but, Chaing Mai want to be twinned with Nakhon Sawan, remains to be seen what the offer is. Noodle receipes have been mentioned as well squat toilets and a new air link!

Wow I hear you cry, or was it the new air link?

Point of order Dave, there was a super star there to-wit Bill him of the KFC.

Glad you had a good time, so Patts was a trite empty. Quite busy when I was there but sorry to say only 1 night. Had to return sharpish for my trip back to Blighty.

The update here is very cold getting worse by the weekend with snow promised. Really looking forward to that.

Other than that repeats on the TV had the film The man with the Golden gun yesterday must say that it made H/M quite homesick.

How long I shall be here Buddha only knows but definitely looking forwards to getting back.

I was in mufti and ingognito down in N/S last week.

I find it easier to observe the locals that way.

One great advantage of eating at KFC is they don't sell noodles.

Currently in Pattaya and it seems busy enough to me. Have heard that the Black Swan, Sukhumvit, BKK has Greene King IPA at 180 a pint in happy hour, so will investigate before I return to NS. Not exactly giving it away I agree but better than other places and worth it for a bit of a change.

Don't know if they still sell braised Lamb knuckle but last time I was there it was very good.

Seems a bit of a detour just to get IPA though.

While I'm at it update on Blighty.

Bloody cold had snow today temp hovering around the 0c but feeling colder in the northerly wind chill.

I bet you all wish you could be here albeit just for the bitter. Have obtained several cans of same yes I know not the best way of enjoying it but it's just to Bloody cold to go out.

We have just been up to the bright light city tonight, wow see that dragon at the crossroads ( Dechatiwong-Big C) just like christmas, give us a big clue to what the Chinese new year is all about and what next years year is eh! My money is on..........St George!

Went Immigration today, entered at 1100 left at 1103, naturally the waters parted as I enetered and after much scrapping and signing autographs I was on my way, probably the best Immi in Thailand.

Pizza Stand still offering 2 pizzas for 1 but they may have forgotten to take the sign down so beware.

Off to Changers on thursday for the flower parade, more twinning in the off I expect, still nice to see the North, will look out for Watford.

Blighty look more like freezing monkeys at the moment, our thoughts go the West Ham traveller at this time of the year, silly old sod! Long way to go for a plate of eels, what can we do with him!

H/M must admit that even N/S looks good compared to here. Na just joking.

Blighty is just like Pattaya at best rubbish.

My internet has been going down almost everyday. Come back TOT with their 26MB all is forgiven.

Update on how it's going over the top prices fuel has dropped a trite at just over 106p.lt for petrol diesel is 114p

Cant go out for a pint of the good stuff to bloody cold last night it was -4c with some snow, to continue for the next week so H/M has been informed well the BBC said that but what do they know.

Eel's not a chance they as you know are all served off stalls the things would be frozen at best not going down the price of the things route/rout AM.

Other than that you'll all be pleased to hear that I'm peed orf big time.

Mum comes out of Hospital today only hope that I can get the staff to feed her up well, once she has improved I will be able to get back. Provided the Thai embassy will issue me with a new O visa my 1 year one runs out the end of this month so will have to start all over again.

Oh well no one said life would be easy.

I just made a small batch of those homemade rolled oats, currants and honey biscuits that you like.

Do you want to pop over and share one or two?

Don't be too long as they are going like hot cakes biscuits.

Tomorrow I will do some more with rolled oats, dessicated coconut and honey.

Have a great cool day.

Nothing I would like better than to pop over for some of your delish goodies. But it's a long way to come from Hertfordshire England.

Ref the IPA (and not a detour, I usually have a few nights in BKK on the way to or from Pattaya), it was excellent stuff, although the price was 200 baht and not the 180 apparently quoted in "Sukhumvit Scene". But I have paid more in other bars in Bangers and it just didn't taste right. Will definitely be back next time.

BTW I have also been to Had Yai, and my mum and dad took me to Butlins once.

Butlins & Had Yai A say no more. Next we'll be hearing that you have been to Phuket & the likes. Not quite up to Skiing in Japan though is it.

I have also been to Butlins the one in Bognor, a chum of mine used to get free trips there and we used it to travel round the area. If H/M remembers right it was a hateful place.

They did have horses but they were the plastic type on some sort of merry go round. At least they didn't crap everywhere.

Right back to the real things in Life Beer.

Hanahands Irish pub in Soi 4 BKK 'You can Google it' also sell the western stuff I think even cheaper during happy hour, 4pm till 8pm if I recall correctly but prices go through the roof either side of that. They also run their H/Hour according to the pub clock behind their bar 'not always the correct time'

Blighty Update.

Cold - something most nights also had a little snow as luck would have it not to much but there's plenty of frost about first thing. Hope I'm not speaking to quickly but so far not had a cold/flue, but it'll come along shore as eggs are eggs.

Other than that it's the pits now where does that remind H/M of.

Twas only a little gentle sarcasm as I know that you are far away in the the land that time forgoet when it came to handing out good weather.

As for the biscuits my son and I arm wrestle for one and the loser is the one who cheats the most. So far I am the winner but only because I am fat and can sit on him.

I didn't know that Bill was back but I think that the tribal drums have dried out and split so no messages yet.

I am seriously considering denouncing Mrs H/M to the UN on the (coffee) grounds that making me drink it is a cruel and unusual punishment and I have done nothing to deserve it apart from kicking the hound of the Baskervilles when I think nobody is looking.

I hope that your Mum gets better soon. Bring her over here where is warmer and you can rent her one of the spare rooms you have at the mansion.

Don't rush back as it's been reported that Mrs H/M has started smiling since you went!!! (lol)

For your information Mrs H/M never stops smiling, sometimes drives me mad, as you know there always some problem, a horse has bolted and the likes what does she do well smile.

Bill I have sorted the coffee problem my new coffee machine has been mastered by Mrs H/M. It's one of those type that you preload the water. Before I left she made me a cup of same but it did turn out a trite weak albeit hot, owing to the fact that she didn't put any coffee in the dispensing leaver. At least your one wouldn't be the type that you can stand the spoon up in like before.

Not heard from Bill lately not like him, maybe his comp: or connection is down, you could call in as your passing to see if he's ok. Then update us.

I did like the bit regarding putting the boot in on our wolf hound, I hope you know that you are the only person that she has ever drawn blood from.

Could have been the fact that she thought you were an outsider from the lower regions trying to sneak in.

H/M.

Fred,

Thanks for wondering whether I am still in the land of the living, I am but have been a bit crook of late. I was also following the age old advice that you should not tell people your problems since 50% don’t care and the other 50% are glad. However following this line of reasoning this post may at least cheer 50% of people up.

I have avoided most travel health problems for the last 40+ years but this time I hit the jackpot. Whilst skiing in Japan I seemed to have suffered an alimentary malfunction that involved projectile vomiting plus a dose of the thrippeny bits. Recovered enough to ski for most of the time then came down with sinus/ear/nose/throat problems when we visited Mt Fuji. Unusually for winter and especially for Fuji we had 2 perfectly clear cloudless days giving glorious views of the mountain which did take my mind off my sneezing and wheezing for some of the time.

Recovering from my fresh ailment somewhat we came back to Thailand and went down to Chumphon where the thrippeny bits re-established themselves with a vengeance and the plane travel exacerbated the ENT( the ear/nose and throat) issues. Went across the isthmus to Ranong and boarded a 100 foot wooden ketch that we had booked to sail into the Mergui archipelago in Burma with 4 other customers. Very calm weather but having above problems plus loss of appetite limited my appreciation of the trip. Once back on shore the thrippenies reached a crescendo before I managed to gulp down enough immodium to staunch the efflux. Another plane trip and a drive up from Bangers got us to the village.

Shortly after I went to see an ENT specialist in KPP. I walked into the consulting room saw the specialist who was distractingly wearing a short skirt next to what looked like a dentist chair. For a moment I thought I had been taken to see a dentist but she was in fact the relevant specialist. Whilst distracted by the short skirt she poked an optic fibre fed camera up one nostril which was fine for a moment then as it went further I yelped in pain. I had no idea the upper reaches of the nose were so sensitive. The process was repeated for the other side up to the point of me screaming as I clutched the dentist chair armrests after which I was prescribed various pills etc. I have to say that, apart from pain management she did seem to know what she was doing since the ENT problem has now largely cleared up and I've managed a few games of golf on a rapidly dehydrating KPP golf course.

Fred, maybe this has made you feel a little better about the UK weather?
