The patent on very expensive Zyprexa expired in October, 2011.

Are generic versions of Zyprexa now sold in Thailand or is that still in the works? I'm specifically interested in the cost of 10mg tabs. I'm aware that a Thai doctor's perscription is required to purchase. Thanks.

It seems from the MIMS Thailand search (look in pinned topics), that is is available under the same name or Olapin A.

Being the medication that it is, I doubt if it would be available outside of major hospitals..

Thanks, FBN. Following your tip, I registered at MIMS.com but didn't get their promised email. Then, after twenty minutes I clicked on "Resend verification email" but still no email, not even in Junk email. So I'm still in the dark.

Is there anything on MMS about the cost of either of the meds you cited? Some years back, because Thai hospitals charged more than the retail Thai pharmacy rates for Zyprexa, the Thai doc wrote a prescription so I could purchase outside, but it was still 40 times as expensive as the generics available in India!!!!! I'm hoping hoping the Olapin A which you cite is a generic, but can't find anything on it by Googling.

Whoops! The MIMS verification email finally came. There's lots of helpful info there but no indication of cost that I can find.

Zyprexa 10mg was Baht 180 per tab, five years ago in Bangkok whereas the generic equivalent in India today equates to a mere Baht 4.19.

Googling simply "Olapin" [without the A] it does seem that it is a generic, so I am somewhat encouraged but am hoping someone can come up with the cost of 10mg tabs. Thanks, again.

The generic brand is called Oalapin-10 and is locally made. I do nto know the cost but will be much less than the import.

The drug is restricted in Thailand, prescription only which usually means only a hospital pharmacy will carry it. he will have to see a pyschiatrist here to get it. If he brings with him a short medical summary from him stating he is on it and diagnosis, this should be easily accomplished.
