A Filipino friend of mine is coming to Bangkok, with a view to possibly relocating here. While he is here, I am hoping to introduce him to some resident Filipinos. I am interested in knowing local gathering places, or hangouts:

- restaurants ?

- RC churches ? ( please give Mass times if known, especially any in Tagalog)

I am looking for places which are "under the radar", i.e. places which are not advertised as such, but have become hangouts anyway. No need to post places which we can find by searching the internet.

Might sound strange but I asked this of a Philippine guy that works for me a few weeks ago. He said lower suk around Nana!

Useless to go to Thailand to meet the same ones that you have at home...

Pubs with Filipino singers. Pub at Sukhumvit Soi 7; Mojo Bar has a Filipino singer; The Corner at Soi Cowboy and the pub opposite The Corner has Filipino band. There is a church near Ploenchit that has mass in Tagalog. Let me get more info on the church. I'm more familiar where the beers are.

@Vtforyou....I so agree with you. He should learn to assimilate with the locals. I often do that when i travel to a foreign country. Get to know the people and culture and hardly look for someone from my country except the contacts of my embassy.

I full heartedly agree with this. However, do you personally have no farang friends? Have you cut yourself off completely from your own countrymen and culture? I doubt it. Everyone needs a release valve living in a different country and there really is a very small population of Philippine people here so doubtless they would want to hang out together sometimes. Just because aliens like us all live here for various reasons does not mean that we do not need sometimes to kick back with our fellow countrymen and bask in our own culture and conversation for a bit. In fact I would say its a necessity.

It seems again illustrative for the average TV-user that only nitespots with beertoomuth can be recalled. Masses of young Pinoy study at RamKamHaeng uni for a few monthes-and thus gather there. The evening foodnightmarket near the pool in front of big stadium and some impromptu internetshops sunday morning. These are not those who tend to go church a lot.

Uless of course that friend of yours also has other interests.

I'd also add The Check Inn on Suhkumvit right near the Nana BTS station. Great Filipino band with 3 nice looking ladies and a gent who are very friendly, been there forever and could probably hook you up with some folks.

The Filipinos that I worked with in Bangkok 18 years ago used to go to their Embassy on a Sunday after church.

The Embassy opened the grounds for them to socialise in.

Maybe the Embassy knows of some Filipino Associations in Bangkok?

Hong Kong is good for meeting Filipino's. Get off the star ferry on HK island and there are loads of them just iching to make your aquaintence.

Why is is people come here for the easy, free lifestyle, and then immediately start telling others how they should live their lives?

And how do you know the OP ISN'T assimilating? Does assimilating mean you have to turn your back on your own culture (assuming you have one), forever? Morons.

That would be the wrong type of church then because the OP asked for an RC (Roman Catholic) church.

There is a Roman Catholic Church at Ruam Rudee street (somewhat behind the US Embassy). That would be a good starting point to meet Filipinos.
