Television Options In Udon

Featured Replies

Looking to upgrade Udon home from basic cable tv to option that has plenty of English language channels and preferably a sports channel that covers golf. Any suggestions on the best option?

Truevisions sounds like what you're after then

True Vision's Gold channel has a dedicated Golf 24 hour channel, plus another 8 or more sports channels, 3 English language movie channels inc HBO and the usual plethora of English news (BBC, CNN), business & markets (CNBC and Bloomberg - major plusses if you are a money man like me!) and drama/documentary stations. MCOT 2 has Asean news in English (quite professional) and TAN has Thai news and magazine programmes entirely in English (far from professional, but kind of charming in small doses).

An English-speaking expat couldn't wish for much more (except for the glaring lack of American football and my personal preference for Aljazeera News, which is no longer carried), but it will set you back about 1,600baht a month. Maybe the silver package will be good enough if it carries the Golf channel.

The Golf Channel is free to all subscribers. I had my service cut off due to non-payment (I was 30 minutes late) and still received the Golf Channel along with Fox Entertainment (channel 57) and the free-to-market Thai stations. My wife has True Knowledge and she gets Golf, as do I on the Gold package.

You can also pay a little bit more for HD channels too (Or they might still be doing the deal where they give you HD channels for free for 3-4 months, I'm not sure), only problem with them though, is that once you get used to the HD channels, you don't want to watch any of the normal movies etc again lol

Does true tv require satellite dish installation? What is the upfront cost? Not in TL right now and trying to have MiL get things set up before we arrive.
