Thai lady has a British passport, is pregnant and presently in the UK. She wants to return to Thailand and have the baby here. If she does so, can she get a British passport for her child?

Husband / father is out of the picture. Application would be by the mother alone.

From what research I've done I think she is OK on this, but I'd be really grateful for advice from anyone with a better handle on these matters than I have.

If the mother is a British citizen, of the course the child can get a British passport, irrespective of where the child is born, this is no different from a "non-thai" single British lady moving to BKK to teach english falling pregant and having the child in BKK...would she be able to claim a British PP for the child ? of course

as long as she obtained British citizenship in a way other than by descent, she can pass her citizenship to her child. As she is a thai lady with British citizenship, i am assuming she is naturalised British, so it is not a problem. But one thing she should bear in mind is that if she gives birth in Thailand, her child will have gained citizenship by descent only, so her grandchildren will not automatically get it.

Well I'm glad it is that straightforward.

An Irish solicitor once said to me " You're seeing bears where there's only bushes!". Looks like I'm doing it again.

I must be getting paranoid about officialdom.

Thanks to all of you for your prompt and clear advice.
