Air Pollution In Ubon Ratchatani?

Featured Replies

Hello, any locals know if there is smoke/smog in the air?

Up here in Chiang Mai visability is only about 300 metres.

In Ubon?

No smoke or smog; clean as a whistle - we're a long way away from you squire.

So they don't burn the paddies, the forest to kickstart mushrooms, & then the roadsides, in UB, like the nutjobs up here do? I'm thinking of moving.

It is OK here because we use power boats to blow the smoke away. Otherwise they would only get work when the floods need moving.

Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang etc are in river valleys and or surrounded by mountains so the smoke hangs around. Plus there are more vehicle fumes all year round. Ubon is a big flat plain. The wind blows any smoke all away.

But, does this mean it floods every year?

Yes terrible floods, Noah's Ark magnitude; but we Ubonites are expert at snorkeling around Tesco every rain season. The good news is that the fields are too damned wet to burn.violin.gifjap.gif

And just in case the poster was actually looking for a serious reply, yes the Moon and Chi rivers do flood big time but it is disruptive only to those who live close to the river. Most of Meuang Ubon is above the flood level, as is most industry (=agricultural processing plants)

Many do burn. I've noticed more have started burning in the last week and it's slightly more hazy than it was but nothing even remotely close to what you get up North. We have nice winds to blow it off.
