Does name calling make you feel better?

I think yours was the minority opinion in this topic. The consensus of the posts turned out to be the right one.

Now, different situations might dictate different answers, but that's why the same questions are asked and answered here.

The OP has reported back that things went pretty much as most thought it would, with the court trip a 'flyer'.

OP, glad to see that things worked out okay for you.

"In a thread like this, I am surprised, that no one has an issue with that it is actually illegal to overstay, and we have posters bragging about their number of overstays. And the simple answer from the visagurus here: "just go to the airport, pay the fine and everything is ok". What about following the rules of a country, where we are guests ? As for the OP, I hope he was deported, tearing out pages from his passport, how immature can you be ? We are often complaining about Thais not beeing willing to take responsibility, what do you call this ?"

This topic wasn't intended to point fingers and denigrate the OP. It was to try to help the OP with a problem he had. Most of the posters did just that, tried to help.

The OP apparently listened to the advice, good advice in my opinion, and did what was needed to do the responsible thing, which ended with a successful outcome.

Other situations might require different paths, that's what this forum is all about, to offer specific advice for specific situations. It's not a perfect forum, but it sure beats the heck out of others that I know about.

Now, on to the next one...

Pay the fine at the airport as you exit the country.

The maximum fine is 20,000 baht.

You won't be blacklisted, so can return to Thailand without a problem.

How can anybody say with Authority that there will be no issues on any subsequent return ?? I would suggest that immigration can level any amount of difficulty and fine should they have reason to do so.

Try overstaying by 70 days in the UK and see if you can return with no problem.

Thailand is no exception and why should she be.

Why? Because they want your money. I've overstayed about 20 times without a fuss.

Yes. Judging by the comments of those in the know of number of overstayers, Thailand must rake in hundreds of millions of baht annually.

What I find amazing about the story of Tourist2011 is that he apparently could go from the immigration office directly to court and ask to be sentenced for overstay and deportation, then from the court go directly to the airport. No intermediary steps of arrest and detention at IDC. It's like he was granted bail without arrest and a judges bail order, perhaps because of the unusual circumstances of his overstay, ie allowed by a border immigration officer to enter with damaged passport and given 15 days' permission to stay, which was too short to get a new passport in time without overstay.

Calling someone stupid is not name calling in the sense that you meant, and you know it.

He was stupid-pure and simple. Perhaps you could suggest a better expression.

In fact I'd go as far as to say its 3 strikes and you're out, with the exception if you've been hospitalised.

There's no excuse to be paying 20,000 baht whatsoever. If you hit that level then its a single strike and red lined. I cannot see how anyone could justify it.

It's taking the Micheal and of course everyone eventually suffers by the arrogance of a few.

"What I find amazing about the story of Tourist2011 is that he apparently could go from the immigration office directly to court and ask to be sentenced for overstay..."

Here in KKC the Labor Office has done pretty much the same thing. Not with overstay, obviously, but for working a few days with an expired WP. Directly to the court to pay a fine.

Admittedly, I don't have any idea how often that happens.

No objections from me on something like that.

Okay, as long as it didn't make you feel better. wai.gif

How about naive? (Trying to put a positive spin on it.)
