Obec plans major boost in teacher training

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Office of Basic Education Commission (Obec) is planning to provide facetoface training that caters to the needs of individual teachers.

"We will organise the pretests to assess the teachers' performance first," Obec secretarygeneral Chinnapat Bhumirat said about the plan yesterday.

If the plan goes ahead, up to 121,176 teachers from 27 groups of academic subjects will receive the training this year.

"The training will be a criterion for promoting teachers too," Chinnapat said.

However, he said before the plan could take effect, it must be submitted to Education Minister Suchart Tadathamrongvej for approval.

The Office of the Teacher Civil Service and Educational Personnel Commission would have its say on the plan too, he said.

According to Chinnapat, Obec is also planning to train 19,051 master or outstanding teachers. The training will focus mainly on teachers of science and math in primary and lower secondary levels.

On the training plan that had already taken effect, Chinnapat said his office had worked with 27 highereducational institutes.

"We plan to train 289,400 teachers," he said, adding that there are also training programmes for 29,093 school directors, 6,809 deputy school directors and 3,945 educational supervisors.

If the test is only HALF as good as the Onet, everything should be fine!

oh, wait...

I wonder exactly how the pre-test is constructed.

One would hope that it includes 360 degree feedback, with proper well proven statistical adjustments to discard unbalanced answers, and therefore provide a realistic profile.

If the pre-test is a self assessment, then the result is worthless.
