I can get a taxi from Pattaya to the airport for 800 Baht. But the taxi drivers at the airport want 1000 Baht upwards to go in the opposite direction, and you know what it's like after a long flight, I can't be bothered haggling with them. But has anyone managed to get a taxi for less than 1000 Baht?

Not being funny but go by bus? They are non-stop to pattaya and very cheap. It all depends on what time your flight gets in and without that information it is hard to give a good idea to you.

Try Bell travel. Bus from Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya... I use them and when you drive at the bus terminal they have a free Van ride to your hotel or home...

250 Baht.. Great value

You can get it that cheap from Pattaya because they don't want to wait around for a fare back, if they go back empty the barely make any money for the round trip.

Pattaya has only a token fleet of metered taxis (that refuse to use their meters) and I have never seen one of those at the airport. How frequently do you see Pattaya taxis dropping off passengers at the airport?

More than likely? Are you sure. I would say it's more than likely that taxis dropping people off at the third level are actually from Bangkok, not Pattaya.
