Expect the numbers for India and Pakistan to greatly increase over the coming years. When this happens, there will be more pressure placed on the Government

to upgrade all frozen pensions.

More pensioners in Japan than Thailand is surprising

The numbers in Thailand claiming to be elsewhere will likely be considerably higher and I can't say that I blame them.

surelyy they get caught when handing in passports for renewal which show where they have been residing?

Unlikely until HO & DWP are resourced for such folly which currently isn't the case; furthermore GDPR (replaced DPA 98 last week) might further complicate any attempts at cross-pollination by HMG on the grounds of privacy.

Just a quick update for those that may or may not be interested in the application process from abroad.

My daughter sent me an email this morning of mail that arrived yesterday from the DWP, Department for Work & Pensions.

I thought I had it cracked, wrong !! It contains a unique invitation code for the applicant to use on www.gov.uk/get-state-pension, it don't work from abroad, so I called the DWP and had a quick chat with a very nice lady, she told me that I needed to download and complete Form IPC BR1

Man oh man, they want to know the ins & outs of a Gnats backside, every job I've ever had, with dates, every address I ever lived at, with dates, any military service including all dates and other relevant info, am I married, single, divorced etc, in my case Divorced, so provide among other things Marriage certificate, Decree Absolute, Birth Certificate.

So for any of you getting ready in the next few months to claim your State pension I would suggest downloading the form now and getting together the documents required, fortunately I remembered to bring everything with me, and it does explain that they will pay into your account here at no cost I believe, and at a better rate than the banks will give and no bank charges by using an ATM to get your dosh from a UK bank account.

And I was also pleased to note that my weekly pension will be GBP 157 .57 per week, not to be sniffed at and a few extra beer tokens always comes in handy. ?

Sorry I forgot to add that you need to then print off the completed form, sign it, enclose the required documents (they will return them) and then DHL or whatever to the UK.

Perhaps I have read your post wrong so to clarify. They pay pension into a Thai bank account so using your Thai card it costs nothing..Your UK bank account will still cost ATM fees in LOS..

Correct sir, according to what I read on the info enclosed with the application form, they pay you in Thai Baht, they buy in bulk so get a good exchange rate, and pay directly into your Thai account at  I believe no cost to you, or certainly a lot less than the 20 quid charged by UK banks or ATM fees if using a debit card over here.

And remember, they give you the choice of paid every 28 days or 3 months. I went for 28 days, It was paid 28 days AFTER when I thought I would get it, 28 days after my 65th birthday, plus now it takes 4/5 days after that to arrive in your Thai bank...

This weekend, the CABP lost one of their most distinguished supporters - Vic Williams. Vic passed away on Sunday, aged 96. In 2013, Vic made a personal appeal to the then UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, by making a Remembrance Day video In the hope that the video would help stop the practice of discrimination against veterans. This has been posted to YouTube, and the link can be found below. Vic did his duty for his country when asked and in his declining years he was denied the pension into which he paid into in good faith all his working life. It is past time that the discriminatory policy of pension freezing was addressed and reversed. Vic’s obituary can be read here https://turnerporter.permavita.com/…/VictorGeorgeWilliams.h…

Vic’s video can be found here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=7&v=t0xAfhtfpP4

Vic will be sadly missed by all of us at CABP who knew him, and thanks to his daughter Wendy for helping with the video in 2013, and for her continued support. This is her memory of the video: “He was very proud of the role he played for a short time with CABP, and he enjoyed attending the annual meetings when he was able to do so.”

Your pension is payed to Citi bank in Ireland, they send it to Citi bank in BKK, there it is changed to baht at the rate of the day. Got mine yesterday when the baht dropped again so it cost me a reduction in beer money...bored.gif.e5c6aa6b494cfa3f64e3e208a9be6cef.gif

trans old chap, did you see my last post on this ? About 3 above this one, don't know why yours is taking such a roundabout route.

Perhaps stuff has changed now, but that's how it was a couple of years back..

Must add, even with the roundabout route it took one or two days, then the Thai gov wanted Thai banks to use (I think) swift codes which then added 4 days.

My pension originally was paid on a Friday or Monday, after the gov thing it then turned up on the next Thursday...Think many here will recall...

My state pension is paid on a Wednesday in the UK I usually get it the following Tuesday assuming no holidays in Thailand'

My RAF pension is paid on the 15th monthly (from the same source UK government funds) and generally arrives on the 17th unless there is a weekend in between. My company pension is paid on the 20th and generally arrives on the 20th unless there is a weekend in between.

All of them have Swift codes applied which means that it should go from the sender to my KBank account directly, but it doesn't.

Problem with fixed dates for transfer you have no control over the exchange rates at any particular time. Mine goes into UK bank, then I do transfer when I want usually mid week when rates are highest, I pay £10 a month for this method ,but get highest rate available which was .4 higher than the TT rates , who give generally .26 spread, use Aeon bank 150 baht usage, plus other benefits on the card

TMB bank is used for bulk transfers uk to whatever Thai bank it eventually lands in

Personally I use TransferWise these days for making transfers of my pension, etc, income from my UK to Thai accounts, since these are based on the rate at the time when a particular transfer is instigated rather than just before the credit to the Thai account is made - by which time BOE Governor Mark Carney may have made yet another what he perceives to be dire prediction regarding the outcome of Brexit, resulting in the GBP's value nosediving.
