PHUKET: -- The Cabinet provisionally agreed to fund 117 of the projects proposed at the Cabinet meeting, at a total cost of about 84 billion baht, Deputy Government spokesman Chalitrat Chantarubeksa announced today.

“Ten of the projects are Andaman-wide projects at a cost of 24.8bn baht. The remaining 107 projects are from the individual Andaman provinces,” Mr Chalitrat said.

With 67 projects approved, costing about 47.7bn baht, Phuket had nearly five times as many projects approved as any other Andaman province.

Phang Nga received approval for 13 projects with an estimated cost of 3.8bn baht.

Ranong had 11 projects approved for an estimated cost of just under 4bn baht.

Krabi had 10 projects approved for 3.4bn baht.

Trang, presenting only six projects, was given provisional agreement for a modest 334 million baht budget.

“All the projects will be ratified in order to be presented to the The Bureau of Budget within two weeks of the approval of the Cabinet, after which the 2012 financial budget can be allocated,” Mr Chalitrat said.

PHUKET, March 21 - The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a budget of some Bt84 billion (over US$2.8 billion) to invest in 117 development projects in the southern Andaman coastal provinces, and also endorsed a project to improve transportation systems on the resort island of Phuket.

Deputy Government Spokesman Chalitrat Chantarubeksa told a news briefing after the Cabinet met in Phuket that it gave a green light for a Bt84,064 million budget toward the development of the five Andaman coastal provinces of Phuket, Ranong, Phang-nga, Krabi and Trang.

Currently, 23 of all 117 development projects, valued at Bt628 million (about $21 million), were ready to start up in Fiscal Year 2012, Mr Chalitrat said, adding that the chiefs of agencies for each project were asked to submit proposals for further budget allocations.

The agencies were set to propose their investment budgets to the Bureau of the Budget within two weeks for further budget allocations.

In addition, the Cabinet also endorsed the project for transportation system improvement in Phuket, particularly air travel, in order to facilitate and to serve the burgeoning number of air travellers from the current six million to 12 million travellers annually, Acting Government Spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ard said.

The Transport Ministry was instructed to urge Airports of Thailand (AoT) to speed up its plan to expand the existing Phuket International Airport, earlier allocated Bt5.7 billion ($190 million), as well as to conduct a feasibility study to build an airport in Phang-nga.

Regarding the Chumphon-Su-ngai Kolok dual track railway, the Cabinet approved in principle and assigned the ministry to carry out further studies before proposing them to the Cabinet, Mr Anusorn added. (MCOT online news)

As far as Chalong, it would be a brilliant addition to Phuket's economical and tourism developement.

Flat all the way just about, not much in the way of big earthworks.

Gofrit, I reckon.
