Where should an aspiring gastronome go in order to find the best food in Thailand?

In my opinion .............. head south to Hat Yai. I went there about six months ago. The food is unreal.

In one restaurant I had an amazing dish that consisted of roast beef served with a sweet sauce and two boiled eggs.

And in another Hat Yai restaurant I ate a "ghaeng phet" that delivered pieces of onion and red pepper every bit as big and juicy as the chunks of chicken.

So ........ where is the best food in Thailand?

i have always been partial to thai-chinese fusion cuisine. It is more readily available than you might think.

That sounds interesting!

To honest though, I'm not too keen on Chinese food. My girlfriend is part Chinese and she eats lots of things which I just can't stomach.

I love Thai food, but I particularly love the "fusion" that's created when Thai meets Muslim. Or when Thai meets Indian.

If you're interested in fusion cuisine, check out some of the hotels here in central BKK. It's not always good, but it's always interesting!

My favourite place to eat is La Monita in Bangkok.

Followed by a Thai restaurant on a small island in the Andaman Sea....the food there is great imo....

Best Thai food you mean?

Yeah -- I guess so.

Thai food CAN be amazing, but the problem (as I'm sure you know) is that all too often it gets phucked up by bad cooks and cheap oil and lousy preparation and ingredients which are past their sell by date.

Then again, if you go to the top Thai restaurants in BKK (and these are the ones that cater predominantly to tourists) you very often get stuff that is bland and way too sweet.

In my experience, the very best Thai food can only be found out in the suburbs.

If you avoid the streets and the tourist centers, you're winning.

But even then, it's clear to me that there are massive regional variations.

A simple GHAPHAO MOOR in Chiang Mai for example, is probably nothing compared to the same dish in Hat Yai.

I'll be the haggis-jockey that he is talking about........he has had two threads locked in the last 24 hours. He's an out and out troll.

To be fair he is a very determined troll though. Have a look at his effort earlier today.

Here's another one from yesterday........

That's on top of some highly offensive and moronic posts he made a couple of weeks ago and continual attacks against members, as you will see in today's thread.

Here's the situation MediumPacedBowler........you ask a sensible question and I won't respond, you're as entitled as anyone to ask questions here, however if you come on with a troll subject I'll start linking you to all your previous troll topics.

People will eventually get wise to you.

Different places are good at different things IMO,

i would pay quite a bit to find out where my old favorite "pat plik pla dook" & 'tom yam" chef is these days,

it was just absolutely fantastic and no one can even remotely come close, but i didnt care for the rest of her stuff.

Chai 4 soup stands makes the best "baa mi keaow", usually not too much sugar as they are instructed by the owners of the franchise how to cook

Favourite food...hmmm.....what do trolls eat? Anyone know??

My Mum used to tell me that they ate cheeky little children........I don't like my Mum.

I bet she told you not to tell fibs as well....

Edit: And to eat your mince and tatties.

She did.......but I tell you, it's an outrage. Your Mum is supposed to look after you and comfort you, but no, Scottish Mums like to terrify you with stories about Trolls eating you and Bogey men coming to get you.

Then you get leathered for peeing the bed in fright.

To be fair though I was 33 years old at the time, I should have known better. passifier.gif

Your mother told you stories about wee sub Sois where they liked to eat small boys?

I felt like pushing one off a plane once but I digress.

Same me.....nightmare flight with feral rug rat in the seat next to me between Manchester to Toronto. Absolute nightmare.

@Mediumpacedbowler

You are a muppet.

Thank you!

Coming from a man who has 12000 posts to his credit on a internet forum, that's a real compliment.

What a rich and exciting life you must live!!

I'm going to bed now.

And no -- I won't be checking out this forum tomorrow. Or the next day, either.

Some of us here in Thailand have lives.

But you just did respond, didn't you?

Why?

You're not here in Thailand. You're not an expat.

So why bother?

To see just how pathetic you look, imagine this:

Blether: Hello children. I've got some great news for you!

Blether children: Really daddy. Please tell us! Please!!

Blether: OK children. But you must promise not to get too excited about it.

Blether children: Yes daddy. We promise! We promise!

Blether. Well children, I've been posting obsessively on a forum devoted to expat life in Thailand.....

Blether children: Yes daddy, please tell us more

Blether: And even though I don't even live in Thailand ....

Blether children: Yes daddy, please tell us more

Blether: I've now got 2000 posts to my credit

Blether children: Really daddy? Really? Does this mean we can tell everyone at school that you're a bored loser?

Blether: Well ..................................

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Think about what you're doing. You're 46. So am I. You've got kids. So have I.

Seriously, what are doing? What is wrong with your life?

Why post OBSESSIVELY on a forum devoted to a country that you don't even live in.

Nothing like the green eyed monster taking over eh mate!! Get a grip!
