What Is The Best Internet And Call Bundle ?

How long is a piece of string ?

About 3 weeks last time I checked...

For the OP - depends entirely where you are. The "best bundle" is whatever works. You'll probably have to experiment a bit, fwiw (and imho) I'd start with Truemove-H, they've set the ball rolling with DTAC and AIS playing catch-up. Also depends on your device, whether it can do 3G on 850MHz (many of the newer quadband devices can, older devices not so much).

Most of them will give you an Internet bundle of between 1Gb and 10Gb for between 400 and 1800 ish Baht. Calls are pretty cheap, personally I don't bother with a voice bundle, only data. If you must have a voice bundle, most of them allow you to layer a voice and/or sms bundle and data bundle at the same time.

While there are some bundles, primarily on the post-paid (contract) side, they do not necessarily represent much in the way of discounting.

You need to provide a lot more detail, regarding your situation, location, usage patterns, budget, device, etc., if you expect any detailed recommendations

Most call discounting is done via promotions on pre-paid, which might include a subscription fee and typically cover on-net calls only.

For budgeting purposes you may consider yourself lucky to get 1 baht/min for calls and 1 baht/SMS. 3G data comes approx. 400 baht/1 GB, 600 baht/2 GB, 800 baht/3 GB

TrueMove H:

pre-paid: http://www.truemove-h.com/en//prepay/prepay-topping.aspx

This Happy pre-paid SIM offers 1 baht/min calls (all networks, 7x24) and 1 baht/SMS, and you can layer a 3G data plan on top of it, say 1 GB for 399 baht, and it never expires (as long as you use it at least once every 43 days):

DTAC just sent me a message yesterday for unlimited 3G for 199 per month.

Coincidentally my internet slowed down shortly after receiving the message.huh.png

edit: this may only apply to chiang mai

DTAC/Happy have a WEEKLY UNLIMITED 3G package for 199 baht. http://www.happy.co.th/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=333&Itemid=368〈=en The fair-use speed limit is 384 Kbps above 1 GB.

Not sure what package DTAC were promoting to you via SMS without more detail. Maybe you exceeded your fair-use limit and your speed dropped accordingly?

I'm reading the SMS they sent me right now: "Celebrate 3G Chiang Mai 199 baht unlimited per month, with 400 minutes free in call credit to other DTAC numbers. Apply at DTAC center before April 30th"

It's written in thai though but I can read wink.png

Maybe im just special ?

^ 199 baht for 400 on-net minutes is obviously a good deal. That's how I read this promotion, rather than being related to 3G per se. It is perhaps just one of several regional promotions meant to raise awareness of DTAC's 3G service in Chiang Mai.

Not sure if those data packages are good priced. I have a contract with AIS called unlimited, it's 799 THB and no restrictions on data volume. It also gives access to any of their Wifi hotspots (I usually don't find many of them anyway, probably TRUE is a better option for this as the city is packed with their hotspots). On Bangkok you usually have UMTS and depending on the location you can download data at some 200 Kb. While I was on Krabi and Ko Lanta I never had more than EDGE, usually GPRS. Same happened on the countryside in Chiang Mai (on the city UMTS is available at decent speeds)

Yes, CAT My have a post-paid (Contract) bundle which does represent a significant discount: http://www.mybycat.com/products.php?id=14&sid=43

The 4 GB fair-use limit, after which the speed drops to 384 Kbps, is about double some of the other service provider options. Since CAT essentially owns the network (shhhh) I guess they are willing to discount so heavily. ;)

AIS/GSM Advance does have some nice post-paid bundles as well. Note that they recently changed their fair-use speed limit to 64 Kbps, which is creating some negative customer backlash.

The 899 baht iSmart package includes 500 minutes, 300 SMSes, 50 MMSes and 3 GB fair-use 3G. (You do not have to buy the phone to get this plan, but if you do the last four months of service, months 21-24 are free.)
