An editorial in Burma’s state-run New Light of Myanmar on Sunday said that “hardliners†in the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) were responsible for the failure to end a conflict that has dragged on in the country’s far north for nearly a year. Referring to the KIO and its armed wing, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the paper said “eternal peace in Kachin State is still a pipe dream for the nationalities there due to some hardline KIO/KIA leaders in spite of three rounds of peace talks between Union-level peacemaking group and the KIO/KIA.â€
