Married To Thai National

Featured Replies

So if a foreigner is married to a Thai national and that Thai wishes to purchase land with money that has been accumulated jointly since being married, why are land offices still requesting that the foreigner signs a declaration stating the funds were the Thai's prior to marriage?...surely that is illegal?

Why should it be illegal since it's Thai law.

To ensure that you have no claim to the land.

As a added bonus, if your wife passes away and their is a will stating that you are to receive all her property. If their is any land, you will be required to sell it within a year.

Because you (the foreigner) aren't allowed to own land, in person or by proxy.

If you buy with joint money, the land will be 50% yours and so not lawful.
