Do you happen to know if the times or different for weekend travel as we are going on the Saturday.

Hi Isabel,

Done this journey a few times.

As bambina advised, the cheapest fare is 15b which gets you a wooden seat in 3rd class. The journey time is nearly 3 hours so the going is slow compared to a a/c minibus which will set you back 60b but only takes 1 hour 15 mins.

The advantage of taking the train is the beautiful central thailand farmland you will see & the colourfull "train life" you will experience!

You can also pick up this service at Makkassan station in case Hualampong is not convenient for you.

Do you know where I can get the minibus from?

We have travelled through thailand a few times now so beause we are only going for the day to Ayutthaya we would rather spend more time there then actually getting there if you know what i mean.

Did you say only 60 bath for the minibus? And how long does that take to get you there?

Can give give me info on where to get it and what times it runs.

Also there is only 2 of us, does the bus needs to be full for it to be 60 bath.

You can catch the minibuses at Victory Monument. From the skytrain station you would take the overhead walkway to the stairs/escalator that descend to the tiny 7/11 store. You will find a row of minivans on the soi behind the tiny 7/11 store. The one going to Ayutthaya is at the head of the line- closest to the police box, and they have a sign displaying #91- Ayutthaya.

The minibuses leave when they are filled up or every 30 minutes, whichever comes first, and the price is 60 B each way, full or not.

Minibus trip takes 1 hr to 1 hr 15 mins.

The end of the line is a corner in Ayutthaya across from another 7/11, where they queue up to make the return trip for the same price of 60 B, and same schedule... 30 mins or full bus. Just return to the same place they dropped you to get back to Victory Monument. Tell your local Tuk Tuk driver- "Lort Thoo Bai Krung Thep" He will know where to take you.

There are usually Tuk Tuks available in this area for your local transportation.

Worthwhile to mention that the minibuses run from 6 AM to 6 PM only. If you stay late, you can cross the road (same side as 7/11) and catch the gov't bus that will take you to Mhor Chit Northern Bus Terminal in BKK.
