Status quo so far, I've tried DTAC aircard, but it wasn't really satisfying, I'd go for it if there's no other choice. I heard True is faster though? Other than the usual suspects (DTAC, AIS, True), what other alternatives do I have to get internet in a rented place? I was wondering if the other companies like TOT offer USB internet or something... Are areas around Bangkok supported as well, for example Samutprakarn?

Hope someone can give some advice, much appreciated! :)

Do you already have an aircard? If so, can you determine the exact brand/make/model, and share it here?

I am guessing here: you have an aircard perhaps purchased from or branded by DTAC. if so, it is 850 Mhz 3G compatible so would work with TrueMove H. I might try a TrueMove H SIM, 99 baht, and subscribe to a daily plan (49 baht) to experiment to see if it meets your requirements. It looks like TrueMove H have decent coverage in Samut Prakan, but Samut Prakan is huge and your exact location may not have any, or decent, coverage.

Once you verify acceptable service you can choose an appropriate plan.

Ok, for the heads up:

Yes, I have an aircard (dtac), model (whichever is right): dtac aircard 153 CE 0682. I also get a signal from TrueWifi, there seems to be a hotspot nearby. I might then apply for that one, it would cost 300 THB/month. If aircard can digest a true sim card, I'd use that one for emergency. Speaking of true sim card, do I need one in order to apply for the trueWifi? It says I can apply via email, but I have no clue where and how to pay. Does anyone know?

You can subscribe to True WiFi service independent of any aircard/SIM/mobile broadband package.

Not sure how you subscribe/pay? I guess TrueMoney would work? http://www3.truecorp.co.th/truemoney (available in many formats including a scratch card from 7/11).

Or maybe visit a TrueShop?

You may want to experiment with a TrueMove H pre-paid SIM to see if it meets your requirements? (NetSIM 3G+, 99 baht, red packaging)

Emergency or back-up use sometimes means little/no usage or sporadic usage which makes it challenging to recommend/choose a plan.
