Hi all just find it a bit strange I got stamped that WP and my visa are now valid untill 31 December 2007!!!!

I see here that everybody gets a 1 year extension.

So did they make a mistake and if so is it better to go back and let them correct?

Or just leave it like it is?

14 years working and am only getting 1 year extension/work permit. I remember reading that there are 3-year extensions available but when I asked IM last year (am now a permanent employee of CMU) if I could get the 3-year extension and they said no.

What would worry me is in December 2007 you go back for renewal and they said it was a mistake and illegal and say 365 day overstay. I think just ignoring it could potentially be a problem. Just stop by and verify with them would be the prudent thing to do.

I will check again if it is true or not.

But even the girl from the agency that arranged all of it doublle checked everything so A bit confused.

There must be a lot of people then that went on Tuesday with wrong stamp.

even though the immigration officer make a mistake,they didn't accept it. Finally you must pay a fine for overstaying. !!!!

so go back , ask them to make sure and it's ok to express feelings of dissatisfaction them.

In the other hands-You should know , sometime IM stamped correct but they told the time by their mouth wrong and foreigner believe that they said ,not believe in the stamped. when the foreigner came back to IM at that time that they had told. They said "I never said that , I do nothing wrong and the stamped is the best evidence.You must pay a fine."

maybe 2 year extension is a gift for new year.

My work permit is also for 2 years not 1, it depends on the representations made to the BoT and immigration by your company.

All farang employees at my company working on the same project as me and on local contract got a 2 year WP

Don't think you have anything to worry about, but doesn't hurt to double check

Don't bank on winning in court Alex, you're farang. I believe Immigration have a get out clause about it being your responsibility to check yuor visa, probably the same with w/p's too. Never forget...TIT

You won't lose, you'll just come a distant second in court...

There have been plenty of mistakes made by Immigration Officers in the past and in every case the end result is invariably 'your fault' as the law has been contravened. You will be deemed to have been responsible for checking the validity: end of story.

At least you are already aware that something is almost certainly wrong, so best advice is to go and get it sorted out soonest.

I have had two year WP and corresponding visa in the past, with a BOI company, so they do exist, but I would advise you to double check it wasn't a mistake tho

I vote for double-checking as well, at the normal time your work permit would expire (1 year).

I have already read of too many immigration/labor dept./airport customs "stamping" and "paperwork" mistakes on this forum alone, to be comfortable with what appears to be a possible error.

However when you go back, always play "dumb-but-polite foreigner" rather than accusatory or know-it-all. Attitude makes all the difference with bureaucrats.

It is my understanding that alien employees of BOI-approved companies get 2-year work permits.

http://www.boi.go.th/english/how/legal_iss...n_investors.asp specifically mentions the possibility of a work permit for a period of 2 years, without however referring to BOI.

correct , only for BOI sponsered companies they will issue 2 years WP , Paperwork will be handled by One Stop Service in Ratchachapisek . You n whoever is dependant will have to show up at their office n sign in person .
