I nominate theblether as the captain of the TV team. thumbsup.gif

Are you sure we should have a Scot captaining the team.

My only experience of Scottish cricket was when I had tickets for the ICC world cup game in Leicester for Scotland v West Indies with Brian Lara as captain. We were all set for a decent day of exhibition cricket, despite having all our beer confiscated on the way in, but unfortunately, having won the toss, Scotland decided to bat.

It was all over pretty quickly though the WI did get some pretty impressive bowling figures in - unfortunately I missed most of the match queuing at the bar for the one round we managed to get in before it all was over.

Well. I just tought.sad.png

First of all the good news........I was the opening batsman for my school cricket team that won the county championship in 1981, now the bad news........I was banned from playing in my local team for a surreal but nonetheless true reason.

I was of the opinion that the opposition objected to the fact that they couldn't see the wicket when I was at the crease..............it turned out that not only could they not see the wicket, they couldn't see the screen behind me too.

I'll need to lose some weight.

So I'll pass on being the team captain, I'll get the first round in though thumbsup.gif

Hahahahaha.

Cricket?

Physical and mental endurance and stamina, including better concentration ??

Willingness to work hard, over an extended period of time, to achieve objectives ??

^^^ In cricket?

They stand around half the time doing nothing or one swinging a piece of wood at a ball ( A bit like Rounders the Americans play - sorry!! World Baseball LOL).

Good joke topic though clap2.gif

The problems faced by Thailand, as outlined on countless TV threads, are no joke

One only has to look to the success story of Australia to see the potential benefits from the introduction of cricket

Thailand does have a team which plays in international tournaments... and some of the players are Thai.

A curious fact about cricket... it went down so big in South Asia that it has become the national game in all four countries, but in the south-east, it made no impact. Indeed, cricket worldwide except in the few English-speaking countries where it's a big game, is dominated by Indians; just look at the Canadian team, for example.

It was big in the US in the 1790s or so, but they abandoned it for the simplicities of baseball (rounders under another name). Cricket was just too sophisticated.

Then i looks like brit1984 moves into the captains position.

Now that didn't take long.whistling.gif

I agree the US is a lost cause

Thailand however has great potential and cricket can help pave the way to utopia

Look at how many non-ethnic English and overseas born 'English' players the England team have had over the past few decades, and it's the same story.

I don't have a problem with that BTW.

Top plan......I'll be the bar room bore throwing out useless advice and endless criticism.

Oh no, that's the perfect job for Bendix.

Can anyone think of some more problems that could be solved by cricket?

and bamboo wickets would add a certain something to the proceedings too, or rebar maybe

England wouldn't have won anything in Cricket or Rugby wothout a couple of South Africaaaaans..

By the way I reckon one day limited over would be graet here...but with an early start, a late finish and the beer tent open for a long lunch....Maybe we can get Blackthorn to sponsor with a few free barrels...

Now Now. I think we should lay off Bendix until he replys to this thread

and gives us some idear off his feelins re this game of cricket.ermm.gif

For sure their stamina levels could benefit from an afternoon standing in the field

They could also learn the importance of taking instructions from their coaches and applying that to the game, instead of making it up as they go along

Thailand already has a cricket league with 3 divisions, with cricket sixes annually in Bangkok (2), Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Pattaya and Phuket. There is also a junior cricket league with teams from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Petchabun and Khon Kaen. The best cricketer from Thailand used to play for Australia under 19s. If anyone wants to play cricket they can join the Siam CC http://siamcc.org/

I think we should introduce the Samoan version kilikiti. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilikiti

Played with a hard rubber ball on a concrete pitch, with bats designed by the individual batsmen, but always massive... the players, well, Samoan size... plenty of food and drink, limitless sides, nobody worries about rules. And even a visiting American would be allowed to play!

A bit like the Gilbert and Sullivan version of billiards.... ".... on a green untrue, with a twisted cue, and elliptical billiard balls."

BTW, why has this got into the Farang entertainment section? Sports, if you like... but we're trying to suggest it for Thais!

I prefer watching paint dry in airconditioned surroundings. It irritates the nose though.

That is very interesting

I think it should be in the school curriculum, and every village should have their own team(s)

My guess would be that he fancies himself more as an umpire but lets wait to hear from him

Yep. You go away for an hour and when you come back the doors swing the wrong way

and the windows have been fixed inside out. Went through it with 2 homes but learnt a lot.

I believe the numerous scam artists that plague Thailand would have sought other paths if they have learnt from an early age, through cricket, that it is not just about finding a way to bend the rules but rather one should respect the spirit of the game.

Chucks? Chucks! You're not by any chance referring to the great Muralitharan (knocks Shane Warne into a cocked hat)? You must be an Aussie!

I am refering to Malinga the slinga

Exactly they obviously never learnt, through the embarrassment of being caught slogging, that they should have listened to their coach when he told them to keep their head over the ball and their front elbow up.

Maybe members would like to remind us of some of the problems / imperfections they have noticed in Thailand and other members (or maybe just me) can explain how cricket could be used to combat such issues

What problems do you see in modern day Thailand?
