I do not love Bangkok for its traffic. Nor do I love it for the extreme heat that we seem to be undergoing these past few weeks. But what I do love about this beautiful bustling city is the fact that there is a new buffet with a new promotion around every corner, every week. I’ve had my share of good eats and bad, and despite the busy working schedule that I won’t be parting ways with anytime soon, I still enjoy a nice brunch on a Sunday afternoon.

This will be a review for Sunday Brunch at the Grand Millennium Sukhumvit. Located just a few steps from the Sukhumvit MRT and even a few more steps from the Asoke BTS, this hotel is tucked away and is somewhat overshadowed by the bigger five star hotels in the area. I happened to come across a promotion for the week that offered four diners for the price of two, so we quickly grabbed the chance and headed over.

The Sunday brunch is located at Atelier and offered free flow open bar as well as a good choice of roasts, desserts and overall a family friendly atmosphere. We booked two days in advance and on the day itself our friends who wanted to join had to be put on the waiting list, so book in advance to be safe.

There are plenty of seats in the restaurant, as well as semi-private dining areas that have round tables so book that if you want to bring a large group of family or friends. The staff quickly bought us to the tables and topped us off with red/white/sparkling wine. There is also an open bar that can mix up some choices of drinks if you choose.

What impressed me the most was the value of this brunch. The Japanese counter offered the standard sashimi and sushi selections. The roast area had Turkey, prime rib, lamb rack and chicken. The red meats with the red wine that was drinkable already made me a very happy man.

The hot food section was a bit limited, as well as the seafood on ice. Just oysters, shelled prawns and Alaskan king crab. The cheeses were alright but by the end of the Brunch the temperature inside the restaurant had already melted most of it and it didn’t look appetizing at all.

There was a children’s corner with a television and some toys but nobody to supervise the kids. However I did notice at least eight or nine different large families who were dining there that day and the restaurant was very kid friendly. They have a cotton candy machine at the dessert station as well as some cakes, but nothing to shout about in regards to taste.

Overall I enjoyed the brunch at the Grande Millennium Sukhumvit. The bill came to be about 700 baht per person with the promotion (usual price 1400). This was a few weeks ago though so you’ll have to double check if they have any specials going on currently. So if you’ve been under a lot of pressure from work recently, why not just drop by one Sunday afternoon and give yourself (and your family or friends) a little treat? Open from 12:00 to 15:30.

  • Book in advance and ask for a table away from the buffet line, it can get pretty crowded right after noon.
  • Round tables and semi-private areas are available for larger groups of customers.
  • Lots of drinks to choose from including over four different fruit juices, so those who don’t take alcohol will still have choices to choose from. For those who drink, don’t drive =)
  • Seafood is limited, but meat selection is great (just in case you aren’t a carnivore like me)

Overall Score 4/5
