Summer Heat And Rainy Season In Isaan

Featured Replies

I have lived in Chiang Mai for 4 years now.

I am planning to move to either Ubon or Sakon Nakon later in the year.

Is the Summer heat in these two areas similiar to Chiang Mai?

Will I be able to handle it ok? I have no problems with the heat in Chiang Mai.

What about rainy season there?

Do you have a lot of all day rains there in rainy season?

Chiang Mai rainy season is not to bad and we seldom have all day rains.

Thank You

The attached pictures are from a weather comparison I did here. I can't speak for Sakon Nakon but can compare Chiang Mai to Ubon. Ubon's air feels cleaner to me and it feels like there is more wind but I don't have any wind data. All day rains are rare. It's rained probably 9 out of the last 10 days but not for very long at a time. Just enough to make it ridiculously humid, bring out all the creepy crawly critters and make everything lush and green.

Agree with ubonrthai. Last year was unusual with quite a few days of prolonged rain - particularly later in the rainy season. My experience of 4 years prior to that was that rain would come in a heavy downburst for a couple of hours in the afternoon or evening and temperatures would drop refreshingly by 10 degrees for a while.

Dont know about Sakhon Nakhon, but I spent a few days in Nakhom Panhom once and the village was very fly-ridden at all times of the day (small buzzy ones not the larger maleng-waan). Flies are not a problem in SiSaket/Ubon (the critters that come in advance of the rainstorm are an annoyance but come and go in an hour or two). That might have only been a localised thing with the flies but it's worth checking out - I could not have lived in that village because of the flies.

Yes; I can personally vouch, there are no flies on SantiSuk smile.png
