this is my first posting so excuse any unintentional lack of decorum. this will be my second trip to thailand (6 weeks in the north last jan. - 6 weeks in the south starting next week).

i don't have my travel notes handy but i'd like 3 days/2nights in marine park renting tent from park and utilizing local fisherman longtails to get around.

question: will it be less expensive/overall better to approach transportation from when on phangnan or samui.

ps: although this is my first posting i've loved this place for the past 1 1/2 years. i work in the cold dark alaskan arctic and i just feel warmer reading your postings.

Samui, definitely. Phangan is quite far from Angthong and the only boats that get out there are the dive boats.

Don't know about the camping thing, tho. I think there is a park ranger station there you could check with.

You're welcome!

Just hope you have fun. My husband has always wanted to go to AK (even tho he is Thai) for salmon fishing. It is one of his dream vacations :o

july is great fun for red salmon on the kenai river. you can put your boat in the water and drift downstream with a big fish landing net in the water with a rope on the bow to hold it in place. shakee shakee shakee and a fish is in the net. you quickly dump the 4 kilo fish in a clean garbage can and stick your net back in the water again quickly. near the mouth of river you motor back upsteam and do it again. permit is free and limit is 55 fish for family of four. it all happens in about a 4 hour period and your limit is full. then its time for rod and reel

SBK is correct, you have to check in at the Ranger Station and they have tents you can rent, but you may want to bring your own. There is a fee to get into the park, but I can't remember how much it is.
