[Myanmar] Foreign Companies To Build Power Plants In Burma

Companies from the US, Japan and South Korea will be involved in the construction of new power plants in Burma, according to state-run media. Reports said Japan’s J Power Co will cooperate with the Ministry of Electric Power (2) to build a a 600 MW coal-fired plant near Rangoon, while South Korean company BKB has been contracted to assist in the construction of a 500 MW gas-fired power plant. Other companies mentioned in the reports are US-based General Electric and Caterpillar, although no details were disclosed about which projects the companies would be involved in.
