THE MINISTRY OF INTERIOR AFFIRMS GRANT OF THAI CITIZENSHIPS TO 13,000 IMMIGRANTS WOULD NOT AFFECT NATIONAL SECURITY

The Ministry of Interior has affirmed that its grant of Thai citizenship to 13,000 immigrants was made with due consideration and would not compromise national security.

Interior Minister Kongsak Wantana (คงศักดิ์ วันทนา) explained his approval of citizenships to 13,827 immigrants, saying that this group of people were those who resided on mountains and that lack of communication had disabled them from being registered during the earlier registration period. He said that granting of citizenship was made after thorough consideration and that he understood the matter well a she used to work in the field of security. Air Chief Marshall Kongsak explained that providing the people with proper identification would allow for easier inspection, and thus, would not negatively affect national security.
