Morning all,

i have just heard that from June 11th until August 10th there will be essential runway maintenance taking place at the airport. Has anybody else heard this?

This notice was in the form of an email sent from the FCo to one of my suppliers in the UK. The email stated that

"It is believed that as a result of this, some airlines are advising their customers of the need to allow a minimum of 80 minutes for flight connections as traffic in and out of the airport is likely to be affected by the reduced runway capacity.

No flights are expected to be cancelled and widespread disruption is not envisaged."

Has anybody else heard about this or have more information?

Thanks

Traveller Alert : Flight Delays at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

Due Runway Maintenance and Part-Closure during 11 Jun-10 Aug'12

Thai Airways International would like to advise travellers of routine maintenance work and the part-runway closure of one of Bangkok Airport's runways from 11 Jun until and including 10 Aug'12. The remainder of this runway will remain open for departure flight operations only.

The 60 day maintenance period will have a knock-on effect both in the air and on the ground for incoming and outgoing flights and it is expected that flights may be held for anything between 20-45 minutes for take-off or landing.

It is expected that all flights will be delayed by at least 20 minutes and as such, the usual minimum connection time of 55 minutes will not be sufficient to ensure smooth connections. THAI strongly suggests allowing up to 80 minutes between connecting flights through Bangkok during this maintenance period.

If you are booked and ticketed with a travel agent, please contact them to check your flight connections through Bangkok during this period or call THAI Reservations on 1300-651 960.

Additionally, THAI Airport Ground Handling staff in Bangkok will do all possible to facilitate all transit passengers at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport and to help alleviate delays and disruptions.

Thai Airways International thanks you for co-operation and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Excellent update lomatopo and thanks for SICA for bringing this one up well ahead of time. I have passed the info to some people arriving late June.

We now can wait for the inevitable posts ridiculing AoT for poor scheduling and lack of planning with the obligatory swipe at Thaksin for building the place anyway.

flew out of swampy last night about 21 30 instead of 20 20 so about a 1 hour delay.

i was ok but some airlines like qatar have tight transit times for switching planes in doha so it could pose problems for the return legs to europe.

Good news.

Airport work to finish one week early

Flight delays at Suvarnabhumi airport caused by runway repair could end one week sooner than expected as authorities are accelerating work.

Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) yesterday said the eastern runway, one of Suvarnabhumi's two runways undergoing overlays since June 11, will be fully operational on Aug 2, one week ahead of schedule.

Hi,

Both runways operational but limited distance available on the easterly runway which in turn slows the movements down per hour. Operators advised to carry extra fuel for the ensuing delays.

I have flown in twice in the last few weeks, arriving at around 8am with around 10 minutes of extended vectoring to the north of the airfield. Not as bad as anticipated.

Some real issues with sink holes both on the runway and taxiways which can present issues when taxying a heavy aircraft.

Rgds.
