Nexus S - After 4.0 Update Very Slow

Featured Replies

I had recently...say a month or two ago...the OTA update to Android 4.0.4.

Since then my phone has become quite slow and sluggish, especially the phone software as such, i.e. it takes a long time to load the call list, favourites, contact pictures etc.

Must add that I have some 4,000 contacts in the phone - still it was no problem under Android 2.3.6 that I had before.

Any ideas? Back to 2.3? Any alternative 4.0.4 versions out there?

Maybe just a bad update; not clearing of cache, Dalvik, etc?

Seems like a common lament. Maybe Google for yourself to see the options? Factory reset seems like a potential solution but you should not do this until you back everything up and understand what you are doing.

4,000 Contacts seems like a lot, have those replicated? Do you need all those on your phone?

If you Loooong Press the Home key how many apps. are running? Can you close some of them? Any improvement?

I've been running 4..0.x for ~ 6 months on SGS1 HW, no problems for me.

usually I kick out any programs that clog up the background. Doesn't make much of a difference as the problem also occurs after a reboot.

Tried to google solutions but the only thing that i really found was getting rid of live wallpapers. Didn't help in my case.

4,000 contacts because I sync the phone with my Outlook and I'm too lazy to filter who I really need in my phone and who not. When I stumble over someone I could delete I do that, but not systematically.

Seems like a lot of issues both with 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 for your model? Supposedly a 4.0.5 coming soon?

Under Settings, Storage, what are the stats in Internal Storage and SD Card?

I'd prune the Contacts; lot's of reports of issues with thousands of Contacts.

In general I always recommend that people should NOT upgrade as soon as an upgrade is available, especially if their phone is working fine. Let others upgrade and sort through any problems, then when things look OK maybe have a go at the upgrade.

Internal storage: total space 0.98 GB - Apps = 636 MB - Available = 239 MB

USB storage: total space = 13.31 Gb - 9.01 GB available.

Pruning contacts...not really an option unless I would really spend a weekend deleting names.
