stevehaigh
quite a few trees down today and the big tent roof thingy at home pro chalong is shredded. those things are made to last so you know it was pretty windy. unfortunately, i still don't have all the west facing glass doors on my house in yet, so we got quite a shower too. greenwater
A big metal piece of the Villa Market tent broke the roof and the wall above the massage place. In Rawai beach road another big Casuarina tree broke down in the sea.

elektrified
Was pretty bad in Kata where I'm staying. Heavy wind, trees down, power outage for 2-3 hours. Quite a bummer on our vacation really. But I epected the worst so no surprises....
pagallim
Perhaps tempting fate to mention it, but impressed that (at least where I live in northern Chalong), whilst horrendous weather in terms of wind and rain virtually all day, no power/internet/sat TV outages at all. A London pub will meet all your requirements . I guess the Diamond Jubilee sparked an wave of homesickness for the British and some higher force decided to offer an relief. I can't wait for the Finnish national day and possibility to stick my tongue to an frozen iron bar once again! I'll skip the reindeer made yellow snow tough.. It does not really work as an good alternative for Viagra regardless what the tourist guides in Lapland might say.

britpop
as per usual in the wet season all the roads (soi's) in patong are flooded, the crazy thing is all the newest roads are flooded, who the liability fall with, in any other country in the world, someone would be held accountable "i know this is thailand and not the west", i know theres corruption, back handers and more, but come on they've actually put the drainage system in place and filled it with there old cement whilst doing the work, unbelievable!!!!!!, like everyone else i'm tiered of there lack of common sense, now we can say "if you don't like it move away", is that really the answer??? g00dgirl
Lucky, I left Phuket 2 weeks ago to spend the spring/summer in Europe. Do you have any pictures of the Home Pro roof, really hard to imagine that was damaged by storms, must have been really bad.
HongKongPhooey
now we can say "if you don't like it move away", is that really the answer??? I honestly believe so personally. Things aren't going to change around here any time soon, we don't have to like it, but I believe we do have to accept it as is. Not a "Don't let the door hit your arse" speech, just my opinion. Things are the way they are, we enjoy it or we don't, it's our call.
FlyByNights
There are three seasons in Thailand -- cool season between November and February, hot season between March and May and rainy (monsoon) season between June and October. Heat, humidity and rainfall vary significantly depending on where you’re traveling and what time of year you come. I must agree, today's storm was one of the worst I have seen. Very dangerous to be on the road, especially with the winds blowing the way they were. I actually thought the roof was going to be ripped off my house, but I do enjoy seeing the tall coconut palm trees sway back and forth. Almost looks like they are made of rubber. simon43
I went over to Kawthaung (Myanmar) yesterday, across from Ranong. The sea was pretty bad going over, but on the return journey in our small boat the water was coming over the gunwhales (nautical term??), and all the Burmese in the boat were praying like mad. My wife phone me whilst we were in mid-channel and - being British - I calmly replied 'Can I call you back? Our boat is having some problems with the waves...' So a boat trip to Kawthaung right now is not really a good idea Simon
Valentine
Today is far worse than yesterday. Major flooding on Chao Fa West. It took me 2 hours to do the school run & back, something which normally takes 45 minutes.

NomadJoe
I can't really remember such a bad weather week in my 16 years here. Agreed, and yet so far this morning it is somehow even worse. We just had a gust of wind in Rawai that was certainly in the category I hurricane range, 75-95mph. In an impressive display of Bernoulli's principle, two of my louvered windows which were unlatched blew open.

I would not want to be on a Phuket flight these last few days. Yes i well remember the 1-2-crash disaster.
