3G Signal/Speeds In Phuket And Samui

Featured Replies

Hi folks.... I'm considering a trip to Phuket or Koh Samui and would need good internet access while there.

Last time I went I researched thoroughly, ie, asked the hotels to test speed in rooms and let me know what speeds I could realistically expect to get. Unfortunately the reality turned out to bear no relation of any kind to what I was told :/

Anyhow I'd like to go again on vacation, and bring along a 3g wireless card for backup in case I get hoodwinked again by the hotel's representation of what the internet access will be like. In koh samui, I noticed that DTAC on an iPhone gave good speed test results, 4 mbps download or something like that, but this wasnt tethered and I dont know what the experience of actually using a computer on that connection would be. True was horrible, mostly edge signal everywhere and very slow edge at that. (I have 3g but not the 3g+ they're advertising lately).

Anyone have any experiencing using 3g DTAC or True (or any other carrier)? If there is someone who provides decent 3g signal on one of the vacation islands, I'd be interested in finding out. Thanks

Great website, thanks iomatopo. Great info.

Disappointing info actually :( but if it's the truth, that's what it is.

My speed with truemove 3g in Lamai, next to Holiday Park.

Truemove-h coverage much better than the competition but in crowded areas performance is rather poor.
