Skype released updates to all of its desktop platforms: Windows, Mac, and Linux. All of the new versions of the popular Voice over IP (VoIP) client bring new features and improvements. The Windows release brings user interface improvements, "pinnable" contacts, and improved Facebook integration. The Mac release brings user interface improvements, support for OS X Mountain Lion, and improved screen sharing. Finally, the Linux release brings improved audio and video quality.

Every time I read "improved Facebook integration" I cringe. To me it means that it will become even easier to inadvertently put something private out there for all the world to see! No thanks.

Very confusing - Skype say the new version for Windows is 5.1 yet when I open Skype on my Windows pc and go to Help, about Skype it says I am running version 5.8.0.158

Can someone explain how these numbers work as to me 5.8 is higher than 5.1?

is it possible to turn it off, again.

The previous version could not be shut down...

Yes, 5.8. is higher than 5.1., but not higher than 5.10. (new version)
