[Myanmar] Visit Of Adb Official Marks Restart Of Burma Engagement

A senior official from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) arrived in Burma on Tuesday for a four-day trip that could lead to the lifting of the bank’s 24-year suspension of operations in the country. Stephen Groff, the ADB’s vice president for East and Southeast Asia, is expected to meet President Thein Sein and opposition lawmakers during his visit to gain a “first-hand understanding†of the government’s goals and priorities. The bank says any resumption of lending to Burma is dependent on approval by ADB member nations, as well as continued reforms and engagement with the international community.
