I have just been given this information by a Thai person who is buying an Android tablet from China , and they are not expecting to be charged for any import tax . Has any one come across this information before ?

This screen shot below is taken from the Thai customs web site

I have bought all sorts of technology from China (mostly LED lighting products but including a tablet / GPS) and never been charged duty even when shipped by UPS.

So I suspect the Free Trade Agreement is in place smile.png

Let us know what happens.

What you do need to be concerned about with shipment of LED type screens is how packaged as some will ship material in display box rather than shipping box with proper packing. Mail is not always kindly handled even if marked frugal.

I ordered 2 phones from China a year or so back. Even though both mobiles and items from China were supposedly exempt. Was charged 700 baht duty through Thai Post.

Ordered same phone through DHL and there was no duty.

For it, you need the famous "Form E" on which Chinese government guarantee that it is made in Thailand.

Just receiving something and it says 68 % and 70 % Chinese (2 different products).

Without that you are at the general rate of 40 % (unless the customs officer has his kind day)

I am talking about importing a Chinese made tablet that's made in China and sent to Thailand .

Sorry..................

made in China would be right. I am a bit crazy today....

Form E is the Certificate of Origin. That confirms that the tablet is made in China.

Without that certificate the general rate applies. Usually from China to Thailand they send as "gift" with low value per regular postal service which usually works.

But of course there is a risk.
