Where Is The Best Place To Get Lumber?

Featured Replies

I am a 54 year old artist retiring to CM to pursue art as a "hobby."

I want to either make my own or have made cradled wood art panels to paint on. I am looking for the components pieces to do this. Where is the best place that have a variety of lumber products.

Take hwy 108 south to Hang Dong. There are several lumber yards around here. Global House also has a good selection of materials. PM me if you want further help.

Moved to Chiang Mai forum, a little far to go to Bangkok to buy lumber.

Moved.

khao yai national park @ korat or prachinburi.

My friend gets good results using 12 mm MDF board. Might be heavier but it has a good smooth finish.

Do you want build stretcher bars for canvas paintings? If so, I can tell you what you need in terms of tools. Lumber is very straight forward. I used to build them for faculty members of the art college I worked for many years ago on the west coast of the U.S.

you might try a builders' merchant. They have these panels already made up. Cheap too. But no Birch here of course. I've often thought of using them myself. Although you're restricted by the sizes. P'raps you could bond them together or branch out into dip/triptychs.
