[Myanmar] Burma’S National Orchestra To Hold Classical Performance

The Myanmar National Symphony Orchestra, which under military rule was only allowed to accompany popular songs or perform folk music on state-run TV and radio, will hold its first performance of Western classical music in Rangoon and Naypyidaw later this week. According to Japan’s Asahi Shimbun, Japanese conductor Yoshikazu Fukumura has been preparing the orchestra to perform works by Mozart and Beethoven since late last month. The first concert will be held in Rangoon on July 13, to be followed by another in Naypyidaw on July 15.
