Cost Of Hospital Care For Thai Nationals

Featured Replies

I have an ex girlfriend that sent me a text yesterday asking for money to help pay for her younger sister's hospitlization in ICU in Khon Kaen. She apparently is very sick and there is a possibility she might die. My question is this: in this case, can the hospital refuse care for this young woman because her family can't pay the costs?

I don't know anything about the hospitals in Thailand, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

CB

Care is free to Thai citizens under the universal health care system.

Sometimes there are specific drugs/treatments that the plan doesn't cover, and of course families incur costs for travel and so forth when a family member is in hosputal, but the basic care is free.

I suggest you go back to your ex-gf and ask her to explain exactly what the costs are that the "gold card" doesn't cover.

And no, there is no possibility that a government hospital would throw her out.
