Setting Up Dlink Dap-1360 As Repeater With Ubuntu 11.04

I am using a Belkin LAN router on my computer (phone line and LAN in back).

It works fine, but I want to increase the signal strength so that a computer somewhat far away gets a better signal.

I was told that the DAP-1360 fits the bill for that and can be used as a repeater.

I have plugged in the DAP-1360, and connected the LAN to one of the ports in the Belkin.

After doing that I continue to have internet access and the wireless light is blinking green.

However, per the instructions, I am supposed to type in either http://dlink.ap or http://192.168.0.50 in my browser. If I do the former I get a search page for dlink with lots of links. If I do the latter I get nothing.

That's as far as I get.

I would appreciate it if anyone could take me through this step by step if something needs to be re-configured as I am not that adept at that. I have spent about 3 hours googling and have not yet found the solution. Thanks in advance for any help!

route should give you the gateway address, in your case, it's very likely that it'll be 192.168.2.1 or maybe 192.168.2.50 as per your instructions.

to subnet is the "2" is this 192.168.2.1 ip address, both devices should have a different one, 1 and 2 for example.

if your repeater is getting its adress from your router than check your router dhcp server configuration and make dhcp give addresses in another subnet.

I appreciate your suggestion, but I am not very experienced with this kind of thing. Could you break that down a bit, perhaps give a step by step that I could follow? I am sorry to impose, but I don't have the experience that allows me to proceed any further.

Further to what I wrote a moment ago, the problem I have is that I can't access the programming necessary. When I enter the IP address in the browser called for in the instructions I get nothing. Apparently this is because a subnet IP address needs to be changed? Or something like that. At any rate, that is where I am in over my head. This is my last try before I ditch this Dlink machine and just buy the most powerful Belkin unit I can find. Would prefer to be able to use the dLink of course.

Router is a Belkin model F7D3402 v1. I live near Zeer Rangsit, not far from the junction of Vipavadi and Phaholyothin.

OK. I unplugged the router LAN from the computer and connected the repeater LAN. When I type in the URL above I get an internal communication error. When I run route I just get the headers below, no numbers:

Hi Oilinki. Thanks for trying to help. The Belkin router works fine, and I can see it by typing in 192.168.2.1. The issue is getting the DLINK DAP-1360 installed to work as a repeater. The problem is that when I type in the URL for the repeater in my browser (per the instructions) the software I need in order to configure the dap-1360 doesn't open. I am using Ubuntu, so that complicates things I suppose. From what I have been told the issue revolves around my needing to change an IP address or subnet or ??. I am not exactly sure, and don't know how to do that in any case. I am sure that it is a task that someone proficient in Linux could do in their sleep, but for me it might as well be reverse polish notation

For the first, try if simply using WPS buttons on both belkin and D-link works..

If not then proceed to following:

It seems that the d-link device does not give you an IP address. So the first step is to get that working.

If you can find instructions, do an factory reset for the device.. to be sure that there is no other settings messing the initial setup.

- power off / power on the router.

- Connect you PC to the router with LAN cable.

-> Check if you have an ip address and route (print the results here .. and use the <> code marks on the Thaivisa editor)

I connected the dlink lan to my computer, hit the reset button, and ran if config to get the following. I then ran route -n and get nothing but the headers.

Earlier ifconfig showed that you have eth1 network device when you got an IP address from the Belkin. Now on this you have both eth0 and eth1 (eg. 2 network cards).

what happens if you try to manually setup the IP-address and then do a ping?
