This is real simple.I like a good dark beer.Thailand has none.I was

very happy to find Beer Lao Dark a few years ago.

A very good dark beer.I thought I had it made.

WRONG...

Tracking down this beer in Thailand has more twist and turns than

driving on a mountain road in the Andes. Some times its here, some times

its there,many times its nowhere.

I looked a little bit into the history of Beer Lao in Thailand, but I

am no expert that if for sure.

It looks like because of the Asian free trade agreement Beer Lao started to be available in

in Thailand in 2006-2007.It looks like they were building market share

for a few years then some time in late 2010 or 2011 some one pulled the plug on Beer

Lao in Thailand.

For a while a number of bars in Pattaya were starting to sell BeerLao.

Now those numbers have fallen off a cliff. Its not for lack of sales I dont think.Every one I know

loves Lao beer.I think the same thing has happen in Bangkok.

You can still find a little of the Lao lager.(for how much longer I dont know)

But as far as the Beer Lao Dark goes I can find non at all in Pattaya.

Zilch Nada

So is Beer Lao Dark available any where in Thailand now? Is there

secret distributor some where?

If you have not seen it in the last 2 months please don't say you have

seen it.6 months ago or 1 year ago does not count.

The supply of Beer Lao Dark in Thailand was always spotty before. Now

it seems there is a 1930s dust bowl tumble weed drought going on.

It's there sometimes and sometimes it's not I should have added. It's in the section like a seperate shop with the spirits and few foreign beers, not in the section with all the boxed beer when it's there.

They had marstons pedigree in last time I looked. Not cheap though.

Do any Bangkok Makros stock Beer Lao? They never have it at Srinakharin.

No idea on Makro there, but several bars around cowboy and Nana sell it though. You could try asking a landlord where he gets it from.

The open bar at the end of cowboy had/has it. Light that is. One of the open bars half way down the soi sells it as well.IIRC.

Will coopers ale do and do they have a dark one ? I've seen Coopers in Tops and Makro.

Thanks Arthurwait I will give Coopers a try..But I think it will be hard to beat Beer Lao Dark, which is one of the best beers I ever had..When the full Asian free trade kicks in,in 2015 there should be loads of Lao beer here then. But being Thailand you never know.

Arthur.............you have just made me salivate.......Coopers is the best beer in Oz and yes they do make a dark beer.....it's called a Stout, and the Coopers Stout is second to none. ( I do enjoy a Guiness but Coopers IMHO is for me.)

<deleted>,,,,,,Makro chiang mai near underpass nong patheep......if you ask your local Makro to get a case in for you , they might well oblidge as I order special requirements......But they may make you pay through the nose ....but worth a try anyway

Just been to Ratchaburi Makro........no luck with any dark beer of any sort, crying.gif just the basic Chang, leo, Archa and Heineken.

I guess there aren't many falangs around the area to warrant them stocking Bee Lao......oh well, must check out Cha Am Makro next time I'm there. unsure.png

Just bought two cases (light and dark) beer Lao at Makro Pinklao.

Annoyingly they were broken into singles rather than in cases.
