Hi,

Does anybody have an idea how often I should water my lawn, what time of the day, and for how long. I Live in the central part of Thailand in Ratchaburi. Also would like to know what fertilizers you use and how often.

Thanks a lot

Twice a week at dusk should be enough.

Obviously you stop watering during the wet season.

Fertilisers will depend on your soil type so I cannot help you there.

Do you have leaches in your lawn?

Sandy soil will require more watering, clay less.

We have buggered if I know type soil and we water everyday, usually in the mornings before midday or late afternoon. Try to get it so the water can soak in before the hot sun is on it all day, or can do same in late afternoon and overnight.

As for fertilizer, we use a white pellet mix of superphosphate which I sprinkle on at say a couple of handfulls over an area of 100sq meters every time after the lawn is cut. We currently cut every 2 weeks.

Our lawn is nice and green and great for kids to play on. It is not perfect, I would love it to be perfect thick and even all over and lush, but it is close. It is also in a lot of shade, so i think it is doing well considering. I have been thinking of getting a cow, can shit on it, eat it and then the maid can milk it. I believe that a house cow has to have a calf first to keep producing milk, so might need to buy a ladder to get it pregnant first.....the gardner that is, he can even sleep with it if he wants for company.

Buy a goat, tether it to a clothesline so it can roam and it will keep your lawn trimmed and give you great-tasting fresh milk.

After 2 or 3 years of lawn care you can eat it. Curried is very good. :o
