Today, the director from my school told me that a neighbouring school, which to the best of my knowledge I've never heard of, has registered my name as teaching at their school, and that I'll probably need to now sign a form for them saying that I've been teaching there. This will then qualify the other school for the 10k per month which the government has promised schools.

My school's director seemed genuinely surprised when I said I didn't know the school, but said that we should try to help the other schools in the area when we can. Although apparently quite a few other schools in the area have all been mentioning my name to the director, hoping that I'll put my name down under their school (To the best of my knowledge, my school is the only school in the district with farang teachers). My director has assured me that nothing illegal is being done, although I don't fully believe that lol.

Anywho, my director said he would give me additional details early next week, and could make arrangements to sign the document then. However, I'd like to find out a bit more details myself before then as well.

Now it could turn out that this school is actually a school I've been associated with a little bit (My school sometimes offers us extra hours teaching at neighbouring schools, although I'm reasonably sure this school isn't one of them), or that perhaps they'll organise additional hours for me teaching there.

However, if this isn't the case, and if it's really just a random school trying to scam the government out of money.... Then what could be the potential implications for me in signing a document of this nature? And if there are more than just the one school which wants me to sign, would this have any additional implications (There's one school which will likely legitimately want me to sign too as I'm doing some teaching for them in my free periods next month), And what would you recommend I do?

Just noticed that I posted this in the Isaan forum, rather than the teaching forum (problem with opening multiple tabs lol).

Can a mod please move this for me.

I would be very, very wary of signing anything that is not legitimate. If you are not working there, you are engaging in fraud. The school will get paid for a service they are not providing.

The form you're intending to sign has two sides. The side you're going to sign reads about your information but the other side which is in the Thai language has two blocks. One with information about the school and one for the Educational Service Area stating your employment period and more.

If you're not intending to work for those schools you're committing fraud.

haha don't worry, I'm not likely to sign anything which isn't correct (Or at least close to being correct, it is the countryside lol).

But I know that they'll try and brush it aside, and say that it's all legal etc, and since the forms are likely to be in Thai, I would have to rely on their assurances (Especially if it's endorsed by my boss).

Although if they can modify my timetable a little, maybe I can work in to teach at their school for a few hours to satisfy the government requirement for the subsidy :)

Do you know if the government subsidy also applies for next term? And how many hours a term/month are needed to qualify (The extra school I'm teaching at for a few hours each week, wanted me to teach 72 during the course of the term?).

I've just heard that our assistant director wants us to sign a document stating that we're working until end of September, making 20 k a month.

The joke is that we're all already working there for years, making a few baht more. I know that they already receive the cash from Bangkok for us.

It's obviously to get some additional money into their pockets. Will try to copy this document before i sign it and post it here.

Of course without names and location.....wai.gif

I've recently seen one of these lists as my wife is the head of English at a small school. The form is issued by the Dept. of Education and I noticed that they just fill in random names for some schools. A Peruvian was listed at a couple of schools but he'd moved to Italy a year or two ago. No shenanigans me thinks as the salaries were also pretty much randomised as well to fill in too many blank spaces.

I would also be a little uneasy about signing anything as I have heard teachers are hired for a couple of hundred Baht an hour and then the school director pockets the difference. The government expects foreigners to work for 50 hours a month for that 10,000 but even the smallest village schools realise that's not going to happen.

I've been signed up with six schools as I'm the only available whitey for miles around! 600 Baht an hour and a guaranteed 10,000 Baht per month from each school. Supply and demand are firmly in my favour for once. thumbsup.gif
