August 5, 201213 yr As for the main Forums (Fora?) I still think there could be a two point policy, firstly, for the outright flames to a new member, report and let the mods deal with it. Secondly, I am still an advocate, for letting us know in here at an early stage of the thread when the posts are seriously detrimental, but not neccesarily deletable, so that we could employ the counter argument and support when required. The blinkered, the Troll and the down right dense are manageable, the intelligent Troll can be a menace and we have had a few, but a counter balance can succeeed. The problem is, some of us don't get out of here much, so a little prompt to tread the outer corridors could be healthy for all.
August 5, 201213 yr We're talking about Bedlam initiates here aren't we? No. Its about the main forum. In a short space of each other, a 19 year old girls thread asking advice on what to wear resulted in a bit of a stupid almost brawl. A young woman who is moving with her boyfriend was torn apart and told her boyfriend would cheat on her. And a woman who is moving with her British born Thai partner and two kids, was told the same..and that being Thai its obviously in his genes. Unbelievably nasty replies also happen to new male members also. Asking simple questions and being torn down. Its downright nasty and uncalled for...and the new members end up not coming back again. ..who can blame them? Sorry eek, the OP was a touch ambiguous and I never read the followups with sufficient care. I suppose I have an opinion but it would lead this thread into even deeper discussion on moderation and I suspect it's on shaky ground now.
August 6, 201213 yr I know we tried it once already with less than successful results, but perhaps this is where the "dislike" or "negative vote" feature could become useful? Maybe make it only available to posters with a certain minimum post count to avoid it spiraling out of control like before. This could be a good way to weed out the negativity and abuse. Or is it not worth going down that route again?
