Can anyone translate the attached letter here.

If I stay on the old sytem will I be charged 1 baht per minute?

We phoned Buriram office and they just said the service would be slower. No mention of a per minute charge.

Thanks in advance

Ok the misses tells me the letter says from jan 01 st you are automatically switched to the new service which is 200 bht month and 1 bht a min for Internet,

The rest of the letter is them trying to sell you the new service which they say is unlimited but is really capped at 3 or 5 gb.

Great I have been using mine for 4/5 hours a night to stream tv,I'm gonna keep using it till they cut it off and refuse to pay the 1 bht/min due to not signing any contract agreeing to their new changes in tariffs/charges

I understand some people have no choice but to use cdma for unlimited internet. However, if there is a school in your village or remote area, there is a chance you can get TOT Adsl to your location if you are willing to spend some chunk of money (lets say 8k - 10k baht). Or if you can collect enough people, TOT may deploy a wireless tower to sell wireless adsl packages.

We have tot adsl in our village since 2011 october and paid around 8K for deploying cable from TOT fiber box to home. Now all we pay is 600 baht or something per month. 7Mbit package (can get higher speeds as fiber box is not far from home).

So what is a suitable alternative to the CAT cdma? I am on the internet six hours a day and download five movies per week. I hear bad things about True and TOT and need a wireless connection. Someone told me AIS has a good wireless plan for 800b/m. Any recommendations?

There are some newer wireless broadband point-to-point services which many have commented favorably on. Wi-NET from TOT, AirNET from AIS and 3BB Wireless Broadband. There have been a few threads on these services.

We don't have any electric lines or water supply to our place it's all generator and a well for water so wouldn't hold out for tot supplying us with wifi

Gees, what a life! May i recommend you to relocate? You will save your investment back in a few years if you buy some place with electricity (cheaper than generator for sure)

Small price to pay for living on 3 km long secluded beach with stunning views of some amazing islands, have a business there so customers pay for the diesel.

Must say after 5 years off living here am looking for a change of scenery in the next few months, still don't think I will live anywhere as beautiful as here in my lifetime again.

Is there CAT 3G coverage on Koh Phangan? If yes, where can I buy USB-modem and package on the island?

It looks like TrueMove H have coverage?

Re: CAT CDMA I did see a recent article where where a quasi IT Minister/Police Captain said CAT may not turn off the CDMA service, YMMV.

Anudith warns CAT not to switch off CDMA network

CAT Telecom is prohibited from turning off Hutch's CDMA-based mobile network as long as its controversial third-generation (3G) deals with concessionaire True Corporation remain unresolved, warns the information and communication technology minister. "CAT must wait for a clear interpretation from the Council of State on whether its contract signed with True is subject to the 1992 Public-Private Joint Venture Act, or it will face a legal challenge," said Gp Capt Anudith Nakornthap. If the contracts fall under the act, they will be scrapped immediately and future contracts will require cabinet approval, he added.

they are now saying they are noy switching it off but are scrapping the unlimited packages and now charge 200 Bht a month and charge 1 Bht/min for Internet obviously they are aware no one in their right mind is going to pay 1 Bht/min so they have virtually forced everyone of cat and onto mycat or true

If you think there is an ADSL internet somewhere within your sight of view (Line of Sight, whatever), you can transport up to 5-7 kms wireless link via special equipment.

What you need is someone will buy ADSL for you (you'll pay for this plus some tea money perhaps?) and install these equipment by professionals or by yourself and voila.

Check kkplaza.com and aircardok.com for equipments. Don't buy anything before done extensive search and a field survey (how many kms, google maps etc)
