I think the OP is talking about a window film.

I paid 16k to put 3M Crystalin (sic) on my 4dr Dmax. I like it much better than the Lamina I had on the last unit.

You're going to want film, and you can spend as much or as little as you want. I thought the 3M was worth the extra money as it is noticeably cooler and the night visibility is great.

Well, I do agree that the OP's post uses ambiguous syntax which could lead one to believe he means that, but D-PRO is used on vehicle bodywork to reduce dirt retention - well, maybe!! The term glass coating in this context is confusing and is as a result of the crap Japanese translation. It is a hydrophobic ceramic nano-coating used on paintwork.

No doubt the OP will wander along soon and enlighten us.

sorry for any confusion,,, this so called glass coating is a not car film for windows but some kind of high end wax coat i think,,, ,, brand name d-pro from japan ... there are others brands from the us and china around but from what info i can gather the d-pro from japan is one of the top brands,,,,,,,, most, all the car fllm places around town are now offering to ( glass coat) cars ,,, i would like to here from others whom already have gone through the glass coating on there cars and find out if this product works or not,,,thanks again for any feed back,,, cheers,,,

I saw this type of product at a motor show several months ago. They also appeared to be selling the product for self application.

I'm sure that certain colours would look great with this type of coating. The idea of a quick wash and wipe off and back comes the shimering gloss sounds great. Wonder how bird s_it etc effects the coating.

If you get it done post some pics and then give an update in a few months please.

Of course if you get a little scrape it will be a re-do of that panel after painting ... how much?

My truck is Pearl White so I just polish with Wolf Gang ... do a bit on a daily basis so get around the whole lot in about a week.

Come on ... whos had it done ... own up!

I was quoted 25K for my as yet, undelivered suzuki swift. My main concern is how long the coating actually lasts - I think there was a one year guarantee..? Will that man it only remains glossy for a year? Personally I'd buy a buffer and top quality wax and do it yourself every few months. Would like to hear from anyone who has done this procedure.

The Motor Expo starts about 30th Nov for Gereral Public ... I'm sure that there will be companies there selling that type of product. Just polish it often until then.

Wow! What a rip off! The manufacturers spends 10's of millions of dollars each on state of the art painting facilities. Bodies are totally immersed in acid baths then purified water washes to clean them, dried, given sulphate etch primers, undercoated then sprayed in 2 pack paint and clear coated....

And somchai reckons he can do better! laugh.pngblink.png

So what kind of car are you buying that makes a wax job worth even 10K?

Does that mean you never have to wax the car again or what?

What is the actual warranty?

1... we bought a c 250 coupe amg merc,,,

2..no need to wax the car during the warranty period,,

3, we were quoted 2 years for the crystal coat and 5 years for the d-pro glass coat warranty,,,,,,,

,,,after the process is done each car place offers to buff out the car for free every 3 months,,,,

This make a bit more sense to me. If you can afford to buy a Merc then it makes some sense to a degree, but for an average car like a Toyota or Honda I'd have to say forget it. My Fortuner is 4 years old and the silver paint is still like new and I'm sure my truck is not an isolated case.

Its actually quite good assuming the numbers work out for you. Cheap glass coat doesn't exist or doesn't work. Glass coating properly goes from 40k up to 100k depending on the coat used and the size of the car. Warranty is not so much the issue, upkeep of the coat is important. If you use Hi Mohs coating you'll get 5 years maintenance (warranty) with it. This consist of quarterly or semi annual checks of the thickness of the layer and repair where required. That way you're ensured your lacquer stays sealed.

It saves you quarterly waxing and or polishing, gives the car a continuous gloss and protects against superficial damages. Given the cost of a respray it probably doesn't weigh up for budget driven cars. If your car is more valuable, exclusive or you just love the gloss it might be good to do.

Using it on the race cars gives us very easy cleaning of nasty track debris like asphalt and rubber. Makes the cars shine too.
