1) It might help if you tell the name of the hospital.

2) It might help if you even say where you live so we can guess.

The title says, 'Piyavate hospital', so I assume that is the name of the hospital?

the more i read this forum, the more I wonder if people are even able to think properly.

1.there are more as 1 Phiyavate Hspt-its a kind of chain.

2.the answer: of course, no need to even ask, there will be both positive and negative reviews, and they may even be different per different clinics, hospitals or medical sector

I had surgery done there about 2 years ago. The staff in my humble opinion is as good as they come.

and they all speak English.

I believe they are on Par with Bumrungrad.

If you are having surgery and going under the knife, I would advise you to get a second opinon.

The doctor that performed the sugery was a surgeon for the U.S. Military duing the Vietnam War, and he trained in the U.S.A. as well.

He knew his stuff thats for sure.coffee1.gif

Sounds as good as other services available. Any idea how prices compare to, say, Bumrungrad/Samitivej?

I was friends with a Thai doctor who used to work there. Or to be more precise, I was a patient of this doctor at another hospital, and when he moved to Piyavet Hospital, I followed him there. He told me that they have three different prices: Cheapest for Thais; more expensive for farangs; and most expensive for Arabs. That being said, I suppose all Thai hospitals would follow a similar policy. They just might not be as honest about it.

As for the service at the hospital, it depends on your individual doctor. I was basically satisfied with my doctor, but he used to beg me to let him prescribe (unneeded) medication after each of my visits. He told me that the hospital makes money off of the medicine he prescribes, and if he didn't meet his quota the hospital management would reprimand him. Again, I suspect this is the norm at most Thai hospitals - the only difference in this case being that I knew the doctor well enough for him to admit these things to me.

What do you mean!? You suggest that the people on thaivisa are not the smartest people in the world?

According to many of us here, we are the most intelligent people you can ever find on this planet.

Some informations (last year) about price for single room+ cost of medical care of private hospitals ;

1) BNH hospital (The Boutique International Hospital) - 7,900 baht per day

2) Bumrungrad hospital- 7,820 baht per day

3) Samitivej hospital - 6,750 baht per day

4) Krungthep hospital - 5,790 baht per day

5) Piyavate hospital - 5,500 baht per day

Choice of physician is far more important in Thailand than choice of hospital.

As for choice of hospital, It really depends on your proposed use of the hospital.

For example, Piyavate would require a more expensive route for 24 hour heart monitoring as they will need you to stay overnight, whereas other hospitals, for example Lat Phrao would have facilities for a holter monitor which is portable and you can wear for 24 hours and can avoid the cost of being an overnight patient. Best advice is shop around and get a recommendation for treatment of your ailment by a specific physician, rather than for the hospital.

I would always go with Bumrungrad if in Bangkok. It's run by an American and it shows. It's also aimed at foreigners which Samitivej is not. Since it's aimed at foreigners, the doctors are used to dealing with foreigners who I imagine are far more likely to not accept the doctors word as gospel, which imo leads to better treatment. I've never had a bad experience at Bumrungrad unlike at for example Bangkok Hospital which is an overprice pos Thai hospital.

Bumrungrad and only Bumrungrad for anything except a cold.
