ICT to create learning apps for school kids

BANGKOK, 28 August 2012 (TTN) – The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is planning to develop a series of educational applications for tablet computers, enabling students from upcountry to acquire the same source of information as those in the big cities.

Minister of ICT Anudith Nakornthap has presided over the signing of an MoU between Office of the Educational Council and TOT Company Limited, a Thai state-owned telecommunications company, to develop educational applications on tablets.

According to Mr Anudith, the Office of Educational Council will provide teaching materials and easy-to-learn content for the TOT to create an Internet-based learning centre. The applications aim to be used on tablets as well as on the websites.

The co-operation will also oversee the research and development of information technology, especially those of the educational sectors, to offer students from the countryside a similar access to information as the ones in the big cities.

The Minister said the co-operation is an expansion of the SMART Thailand and Tablets Giveaway policies, the key schemes to offer the public a more convenient access to the Internet-based state services, and the distribution of equal education to all students in the country.
