Can You Teach English In Thailand/bkk With A Thai Degree?

Featured Replies

Hi, I am an American and will be moving to Thailand soon. I will be living there perminantly and finishing up my degree at a Thai university. I was curious if I could land a teaching job at some point with a bachelors degree from a Thai university?

Yes, you can. We have had several teachers who have degrees from Thai Universities.

It would help a lot if you have had some teacher training in the subject. TEFLA is a good way to go. There's a lot more to teaching the language than just speaking it.

might pay to check your spelling too! The students will catch you!!

You don't NEED a degree to teach here, but you do need one to get all the neccessary paper work.

Ok, so I can finish my degree up here in Bangkok, and should be able to find a job, no problem?

The spelling and grammar Nazis have been out in force lately on a number of threads in the Teaching Sub-forum. This is not permitted.

Not everyone has a decent computer, a good internet connection or good computer skills. Some posters use the mobile phone applications which can be rather difficult and prone to errors.

Not everyone on the forum is a native English speaker. Not everyone is looking for a job teaching English, although they likely will be teaching IN English.

As a moderator it is quite painful to see posters humiliated and to get PM's asking that the topic they posted be deleted because of the negative responses.

We have a lot of very knowledgeable posters and a very helpful group, but keep in mind the technical limitations that some posters may have and remember, at one point, you may have been where they are now.

Your cooperation is appreciated.
